The best opponent for a Darren Barker 2014 Stamford Bridge fight

    Presumably his next fight will be against Sturm. If he gets through presumably a big May/June Stadium fight awaits. Eddie Hearn tweeted about Martinez, but I think a fellow Brit would be a bigger attraction.

    The logical foe now is Murrey, but by next Summer BJS should have picked up the EBU belt and would be ready for a mega Barker fight.

    Therefore for me BJS would be the biggest fight for him Summer 2014

    Murray much bigger fight. BJS needs to take a step up in class and stop fighting domestic bums.

    Take Sturm & Martinez off Murrey's record and then add a few more opponents to BJS is there much difference?

    What's your point,Murray has been mixing with world class operators and looking dam good in the process.

    Saunders is nowhere near that type of level.

    point taken, but pre-Sturm did Murrey deserve the World title shot and then came off with a draw.

    BJS is getting better and better. 9 months time he will be knocking on the door

    Didn't Billy Joe struggle against Nick Blackwell a guy Martin Murray stopped in 5 rounds,if your looking for a measuring stick between the two fighters there it is right there.

    Saunders isn't getting past Ryder imo,and even if he does I don't think he has the pop to do much at world level.

    A stadium fight would be pointless. As good as he is, Barker can't even sell out Wembley Arena yet. Let's do things in stages, eh? He's not exactly well known outside this forum.

    Something at the O2 next year would be nice.

    Murray easier to do, doubt we'll see a co-promoted stadium fight between Frank and Eddie anytme soon.

    I personally think Martinez is there for the taking.. I think the last 5 fights have taken something outta him.. Only my opinion.. I think Darren beats him..

    While it was a great win for Darren we must consider that Barker is unlikely to be champ for long. He may well not get past his first defence...against someone like Sturm. A fit, motivated Sturm, for example, even at 34, like the Sturm of his last fight this year or the Zbik fight in 2012, beats Darren all day. And this is the Sturm we will be seeing from now on. At his age Sturn now realises that he can no longer show up smug, lazy and underprepared like against Geale, Soliman and do the bare minimum to win etc. A lean, mean Sturm should get past the likes of Barker and Geale. For me Sturm is a level above these guys, even now.
