Roach know this..the breaking down of Floyd will be as a result of the biggest and most scientific preparation in the history of the sport. This fight will be won behind closed doors.
good article. Ya the main thing about fighting Floyd, you cant box him, cant counter him, can't headhunt. You need to press him, intelligently. Stick the jab in his face, keep him thinking about it, go to the body and work your way upstairs. Castillo's a fairly slow guy yet he gave Mayweather one of his toughest fights. It's all about picking your spots and I like the idea of punching when Mayweather punches. Take the risk of getting hit and accept the fact that your gonna take some shots. As long as your hitting him back it's okay. The thing about Pacquaio is that by being a southpaw he's already neutralized alot of the advantages that Floyd has. Floyd can't use a lead left hook (his best weapon) on a southpaw, shoulder roll defense isn't very effective (it's use is for avoiding right hands from an orthodox fighter). Thus Mayweather has to fight a more "regular" type of fight. He has to stand more upright, and use straight right hands as his best punch. Couple in Pacquaios' blazing speed, punching power, iron chin and will, and that's about Mayweathers worst nightmare.
Very interesting article. Reminds me I need to hit TSS more often. One thing I disagree with is that all of his opponents were mysteriously "bedazzled" and simply lost the thread. The real reason this happened is because Floyd made adjustments, and they couldn't. They also gassed when he didn't. What's so damned great about the challenge Manny brings is that he's likely to have the same ability to press in the 12th that he will have in the 1st, and he's being guided by a master strategist who will help him prepare ahead of time for Floyd's adjustments. In a lot of ways they are eachother's nightmare, and that's why I think on top of being significant historically, it could even prove to be an entertaining fight as well.
Good strategy it may indeed work, but the author for got that Floyd was moving up from 130 and weighed 130 weighed in at 130 when he fought Castillio, while Castillio weighed in at 147. So Castillio was able to use his weight to control floyd on the inside, Floyd is a whole lot stronger now.. Second the author does what fighter have been doing to pac, under estimating his physical strength .. Every seem to think just because floyd moves around in the ring that he not physically strong. Zab, Hatton, oscar and Corrales al found out the hard way that floyd is not as flimsy as he looks. The look in hatton eyes when he finally was able to get on the inside where he wanted to be , only to have Floyd man handle him and own body ravaged with floyd body punces . What about Floyd's conditioning too do what the author is saying the fighter will have to be able to beat floyd's conditioning .. To beat floyd style you will need to be ether a south paw with very good boxing skill or have a Roy Jones style .. Roy Jones fight against Tony is somewhat a blue print ..Frezz him with a faint Get in score, get out. forget about a KO rack up points.
good point you brought there pit. castillo truly beat mayweather in their fight but also in part because he outweighed mayweatther by a consdierable amount. and also injured mayweather as well.
