Have been re-watching some vintage Rampage this week, I think many people (most definitely myself included) have forgot what an absolute beast this guy was back in his physical prime and when he used his wrestling, because of the tired, toothless, one-dimensional boxer he became in his later UFC days. In 2003, the Rampage who overpowered prime Chuck Liddell and Kevin Randleman was a ****ing MONSTER. OK, he would meet his match in the extreme ultraviolence of the peak Muay Thai facekicking ferocity of Wanderlei and Shogun, but every fighter who fights peak versions of the best fighters on the planet will find their Kryptonite eventually. 'Page was still a genuinely brilliant fighter back around '03. How do you guys think that version would have done against Jones? Jones is a very good striker, but he definitely doesn't have the raw KO power of Wanderlei nor the incisive killer instinct of prime Shogun. I think the best Rampage could easily match if not exceed Jones in terms of grappling strength. This fight is a very, very interesting one to ponder. Thoughts? :bbb
if the fight is in a pride ring it mite be closer because jones wouldn't have so much room to move but still picking jones
It's the best he ever looked in my opinion, but you can answer the thread question based on whenever you think Rampage was best, up to you. The best Page vs the current Jones. Your verdict?
Rampage never beats Jon Jones because he never understood kicking range. Page gets picked apart in any era by Jones.
:nono Always difficult to compare fighters under different promotions, different era's, different rules, and at different stages of their career. But you write Rampage off far too easily. There was a time when Rampage was legitimately the second best heavy in the world behind Wand. Under PRIDE rules do you truthfully believe Jones wouldnt be in a serious fight vs Rampage?
I may actually watch some old Rampage PRIDE fights just to remind myself of what a BEAST he was when he could actually be bothered ****in fighting. To answer your question however, I still think Jon Jones beats him. I will not elaborate on that as i don't wanna give that absolute wanker more credit than i have too.
I think I summed up my argument perfectly. Feel free to reread if needed. Jones is a complete fighter - and Rampage never was. Only a complete fighter will defeat Jon Jones.
Rampage could never **** with Jones... Rampage is not a complete fighter like Jon Jones! Rampage was always a one trick pony..
I think Jones would find it strange somewhat had he faced Page, Shogun and Wand in pride. He can't use his elbows so he has to punch only (note how important the elbow is to his game), and he can't just crazily pull guard and be on his back as stomp and soccer kicks are allowed. He'll surely find it difficult to get past those. I really can't say he'll lose to Rampage, but he'll surely get his payday's worth while being there.
