I happens. I several times said that there of course exceptions and that nothing is 100%, but that doesn't seem to hit home.

Looking at those clips I provided I feel comfortable that saying that they block the punches with their guard more than they parry anything. You don't agree?

When you parry body shots you always take a risk. This is examples of Khan and Curry getting KO'd in when they lower their guard in anticipation of a body shot that turns out being a punch to the head:

He was 3-2 against top 5 fighters in the 70's. He was outboxed by the two most technical he fought. I don't find that very effective.

What's amusing is Hopkins has wrote entire articles on the parry, and would disagree with you.

Again, Hopkins using it against Cloud.

Neither is really a parry. The first is range finding, pawing, with the left. The second is text book blocking a jab. You move the right slightly, but just slightly forward when blocking.

This will go on forever. If you look at really technical fighters like say Duran, Kalambay, McCallum, Lopez, Loma etc you will see that the employ most of the tenants I described earlier. That was of course general and there will always be variations, but watch them and then read my description and I think you will see that they correspond quite well.

    I'll leave it there.

Cloud throws a job, Hopkins smacks his wrist and knocks it down.

Incorrect. A block is the stop of an attack. A parry is a redirection of an attack. Marquez is knocking Mayweather's jab down. That's a very cut and dry definition.

From what I'm gathering here, is you are suggesting that a parry has to be utilized every time to be considered used? That's outrageous, it's situational and depends on the strategy and style. To use a parry just once is to use a parry.

What the hell is your argument now? You originally stated that the parry is poor technique not used by good technical fighters. You've been corrected on this and now your argument is fighters block more than they parry...so what? That in no way validates your claim that the parry is poor technique not used by anyone.

When you commit to anything in boxing, it's a risk. So what?

Prior to his comeback, Foreman reached the apex of the division during it's so called Golden Age, and built an all time great legacy. He was very effective.

Yes, he lost to Ali and Young for a number of reasons. But that in no way invalidates his effectiveness.

3-2 against top 5 fighters where of one was life and death isn't really that effective. I'd agree that he was effective relative to his technical skill, though. A less physically imposing fighter fighting like he did would not have been nearly as successful.

But you can do a thread whether or not Foreman was a technically skilled fighter if you want to hear other people's opinion.

Duran, McCallum, and Loma are aggressive pressure fighters, the parry just doesn't make sense for them to use given they are often coming forward.

Oh no..Kalambay got knocked out...I guess that invalidates his defense. I mean if Khan vs Canelo is being used to damn the parry.

Kalambay got KO'd because of a technical mistake. Just like Khan did. Even very technical fighters will commit them. Boxing is a horrendously difficult sport to master. There will probably never be a thing like a perfect technician.

Disputing Foreman's legacy is an uphill climb. Given he is on camera actually shut down the offense of a fighter you praised as a tech guy you are starting off in an even deeper hole.

    Ah, double speak.

If he had a vagina he would have been a woman too.

I don't believe I would label Foreman as a technically skilled fighter in the sense of what is commonly associated with that label. So why would I do that?

Why don't you start a thread asking if Foreman was an effective fighter?

That's the problem I have discussing with you. I have emphasized several times that you can be effective even if you don't have great text book technique, but that still doesn't register with you apparently.

Compared to textbook breakers like Ali and RJJ, Foreman was only moderately effective, though. But, yes, because of his other assets he was effective relative to his technical skill. Nothing new about that. Just what I've been saying all along.

But, anyhow, you seem to agree with me that Foreman wasn't very technically skilled for someone at his level. That's good.

Louis has about as large part of the votes here as Bowe does in the thread comparing him to Carnera. A very balanced view in my eyes. What you'd expect with not much bias at all, actually.

This very thread seems to be an attack on that notion.
