The best Mayweather and Hearns didn’t fight at the same weight. I assume 147 is fairest overlap here.

He was sprawled out on the canvas by guys who overpowered him.

Floyd would never have been able to have replicated that, as he didn’t possess the firepower that they did.

    How many guys outboxed Hearns?

    Ray couldn’t do it.

    Benitez couldn’t do it.

    Duran couldn’t do it.

    Hill couldn’t do it.

    Marvin didn’t even attempt it.

So how could Floyd, when he was only 5’8?

It would have just been a horrible stylistic match up for Floyd.

That’s why most people are picking Hearns.

It’s not asking who the better boxer was.

Hearns had a 78” reach, and a nuclear bomb in his right hand which would have made Floyd extremely cautious against him.

How would Floyd have taken his jab away and gotten inside of his range in order to have banked the majority of the rounds?

Except that he’d have been facing a much better version of Manny when he was in his prime.

    Manny was also injured.

So beating an 2010 Manny would have been much harder for him.

Manny had the same injury for years. Fighters in their 30s fight with nagging injuries over and over, including Mayweather.

And when did Floyd ever fight a prime ATG who had a laser like jab from a huge 78” reach?

Floyd had a reach advantage over pretty much everyone he fought, bar Oscar.

‘IF’ is the biggest word in the dictionary.

He couldn’t have taken Hearns’ jab away.

Again, he’d also have been extremely cautious of his huge right hand.

Hearns wouldn’t have had to have fought cautiously either.

At any point he’d have shown Floyd any aggression, Floyd would have just backed off and gone into a defensive shell.

How come there’s only you on the entire thread which can’t see what everyone else can?

Great post, but I can’t envisage Floyd pot shotting a guy of Hearns’ size.

No Neck has done an excellent job of breaking down how the fight would have gone?

    Ha!

You’ve walked him down as effectively as Tommy Morrison walked down Ray Mercer.

I resent that. Morrison at least landed some blows ;-)

The point he was making, was that he’d have needed to have been Leonard in order to have stopped Tommy from out boxing him to have won the fight.

Floyd did adapt in many fights, but he couldn’t have against Hearns, because he didn’t possess the plan B that Leonard did, which was to overpower him in a shootout. He didn’t have the firepower.

Yes, but not from a prime ATG who had a 78” reach.

    Context.

    Canelo didn’t fear Floyd’s power.

It was his speed from a reach advantage.
