We base pretty much all of bowe's legacy on one night. Taking holyfield's zero was a greater individual accomplishment than wlad has achieved to date. But he never showed the same skills again imo. Wlad is much more consistent but I buy your point about his mentality; we haven't seen him in trouble since he hit his stride. I think wlad hits harder than holyfield or golota and both of them came within a whisker stopping bowe. Maybe i'm harsh but I just think bowe has all this hype based off 1 performance and he never lived up to his potential.

Your right he never lived up to his potential, and i have stated before that maybe Evander's lack of size and power made Bowe look better. But on the other hand size and power aside, Holyfield was a superb heavyweight, who understood the game well, as in distance, which punches to throw and he put them together superbly. No one else has done this as well since. Personally i don't think Wlad couldv'e beaten that Holyfield. And even if it was just for one night, has Wlad ever looked that good?
While your right Bowe never looked that good again, he did look good in other fights. Notably Gonzalez, which i think is comparable to a fight with Wlad, due to size and amateur pedigree. And remember i did say in the thread title...best versions.

Lewis destroys him ... I favor Bowe but Wlad has a better shot ..

we'll never know if wlad could have beaten that holyfield or not. I mean holyfield has a great resume across the 90's heavyweight scene and I don't think anyone tops it tbh, but he had a couple of inconsistent performances, notably to bowe and moorer. now was it styles, heart problems of just being beat by the better man? I don't know.

what i also don't know is how good the best version of bowe really was. he had 1 great fight against holyfield but we never saw that version against someone as good as wlad who was as big as wlad. Lewis would have been a great measuring stick for this IMO.

The basis for my picking Wlad over Bowe is thus:

    1) Wlad has shown a greater level of consistency at the top level (06-Present he has been the best heavy on the planet and i don't think anyone would dispute that)
    2) Bowe doesn't mind getting hit and I don't think anyone hit him as hard as Wlad would have done.

and that's all I have to go off. they didn't really meet similar styles during their career, although I would say Wlad came the closest when he fought Brewster but he showed he could overcome that style eventually. I wouldn't bet money on my pick at all but I give the slight edge to Wlad.

That's fair enough. It's a matter of personal opinion at the end of the day.
I feel that Bowe at his best which is Holy1, although he did look awesome on his way up to that fight. Looked a better heavyweight than Wlad has ever done (consistency aside). I just don't see Wlad handling the pressure that Bowe could put him under. But like i say personal opinion.
