Prime Kovalev was great. He did beat Ward imo. But his style is totally different from Beterbiev. He's much more refined.

 

Beterbiev is a well known powerhouse but his IQ and skill set never gets the credit it deserves,he is a master of manipulating opponents and getting them to do what he wants as well as forcing them into positions which favours him to unload his short power shots and combinations,even taking shots to allow him to land his own. Beterbiev is all wrong for Ward .

I happen to remember a mauling inside fighter Sakio bika giving ward a difficult fight. Beterbiev can do similar things with greater power

Neither Ali or Ward were defensive fighters. Pernell Whitaker was a defensive fighter and he’s always regarded as one of the GOATs on this board.

I mean Beterbiev picks his shots pretty masterfully. It is important to acknowledge what you said about his competition too because his masterful pressure/stalker approach has only been applied to lesser opponents. The collection of stoppages versus Gvodzyk (undefeated), Callum Smith (never stopped before), Browne (never stopped before), Joe Smith, Kalajdzic (never stopped before), and Yarde...that's a pretty decent list if I'm being honest. Should Beter beat and stop Bivol it would be a feat considering Beter is freaking 39 yrs old.

I dont know how Beter stacks up all time at LHW. Cause RJJ used PEDs and his tests were ADVERSE not ATYPICAL. So Idk how good Roy truly was
