Whatever it gained back after the late 70s scandal, it lost again.

I dunno why the other thread was deleted. This is a legitimate topic of discussion in boxing.

How are you going to be OWNED by the largest promotional company and be neutral?

GBP already has enough influence at HBO. Now the Golden Mafia has spread its wings over to the biggest boxing magazine.

    Screw The Ring

Where has this been published? Awful, awful news if true. You can communicate with them, you can allow them to advertise, but you can't be OWNED by them!

I've always trusted the Ring myself. But whatever it was, it died tonight.

Amazing that before he even gets a fair shake you guys are writing this off simply because it's Hoya.

I would be very concerned about this if I were a different promoter. This creates all kinds of scenarios for undue influence.

It's no different from the ABCs being on the take -- and I guess this is better because the control is transparent -- but I had held The Ring to a higher standard than that.

Times must have been very hard around there.

Yeah sure, it's merely because it's De La Hoya.

I mean no one would have a problem if Don King, Gary Shaw, Frank Warren, or Bob Arum purchased The Ring.

The Ring really has a great history when it comes to promoters' influence.

The fact that it's GBP makes no difference at all. It could be any promoter and it would violate journalistic independence.

We've seen how the controlling influence can taint news, as evidenced every day by Rupert Murdoch and Fox. Or Disney and ABC/ESPN. Integrity goes out the window to make way for the bottom line.

    I'll miss you, The Ring.

Maybe Oscar will actually now make the "Ring Champs" actaully defend there titles against worthy opponents that are in the same weight class(B-HOP)

There rankings have always been OK but there belts are garbage. The Ring is just another ABC without the ABC.
