Better management (protection from the tough/dangerous fights) and better sports medicine. Add to that better diet and training techniques and you get fighters fighting into there late 30s and early 40s. This was unheard of 30 years ago or longer. Most fighters were used up by the the time they reached their 30s. However, fighters back then were more aggressive and more fun to watch. They took risks. Today's fighters for the most part are business men first and boxers later. It makes for long careers but boring ass fights. Like most of Hopkin's fights are. He has had to play it safe and get a few easy decisions to last this long. Until recently, you seldomed saw the best, fight the best but even then, it is only if there are millions to be gained.

Hell, Ron Lyle started boxing at 29 and had 15 fights in his first 12 months as a pro. He won all of them, 13 by KO.

THe old school style boxing trunks look better than the knee length basketball shorts they wear today.

I agree. Not to mention many professionals nowadays wear boxing trunks that looks like Nascars with all the advertisements on them.

Oh, how I miss the days of un-fruity boxing trunks and shoes....

This is why most true boxing fans do not post in the General Forum anymore. Too many wise asses.

It has become a business and fighters fight less often now, but you cant fault them for holding out and looking for the best deal possible.

Theyre risking their health here, for other people's enjoyment. At the very least, they have to earn as much money as possible, in as little bodily harm as possible, if they can, in exchange for the enjoyment they give to all the boxing fans.

Old school fighters rarely got million dollar paydays. Nowadays, it's more common, so the boxers are just taking advantage of it. So they can get out of the business with faculties intact, and with more than enough money to last them their lifetimes.

Also no matter how hard todays fighters try. They will never EVER be rewarded with a Top 5 Ranking All Time.

Bull****. The fights are there, the greatness is there. It's up to them to make it and take it.

If Floyd returned and beat Pac @ 140, Margarito and Cotto @ 147, and maybe Williams, Forrest and Spinks @ 154, I think a case could be made for him.

I didn't prove your point, because you make a blanket observation, not a point. Like I said, the fights are there. No one said it would be easy Simple Jack. Becoming a top 5 in ANY sport takes a lot of hard work and risks.

No **** it does but fighters of the past are held too high. They act like its fighters fault today that they can't fight 25 times a year. They also think that fighters of the past if they were born in todays time would still be the exact same. Im sorry but no. Just because SRR fought that much doesn't mean he would do it in todays era.
