Yes, I read it a few months ago. Its very good esp. for me as I was a kid at the time of the Pintor fight and I can vaguely remember the day by day news reports on his condition. There are also a lot of interviews with 'lesser' fighters and trainers who knew Owen as well as the more obvious sources. Recommended.
I remember he was soo skinny, and pale. But a tough fighter none the less. Also I beleive he had a skull & cross bones on his robe?
There is a terrific on-line documentary about Johnny The Matchstick Man Owen. It downloads in about 3 parts and includes footage from the fight, the drama that follows, and years later a meeting between Lupe Pintor & Owen's family. An absolute must watch!
Yes, Johnny was very skinny, but he trained extremely hard! I guess that's just the way his body was. I remember reading how he would sometimes run in army boots. He was very disciplined when it came to training. He was a community sort of guy, very well-liked, very accessible to all the people in the area where he lived. Great, great tragedy what happened in the aftermath of the Pintor bout. Johnny put up a great performance that night. Whenever british boxing challenges are talked about, this should never got unmentioned!
