just watched the replay and...I wanna' know how Arturo Gatti (and his opponent for that matter) ever made it through the 9th round of his first fight with Micky Ward??!!!?? Man, that was INSANE...
hell w/ the 9th rd they went thru 3 fights all wars!!! thats why micky ward retired his vision an equilibrium was ****ed up after the 2nd fight when he got rocked an stumbled into the ropes classic fights wow!
yea, but I mean, the 9TH ROUND of the first fight...Gatti went down in apparently EXCRUTIATING pain...then no tonly gets up but turns iot around 30 seconds later! THEN Mickey turns the tables on him AGAIn in the same round, almost stops him at the bell...ref could have easilly stopped that fight for Mick in the 9th and few would have argued...amazing...those two were MADE for each other...
Buddy McGirt actually was about to stop the fight and I think he was actually on the steps, but Frank Cappucino didn't see him. Then McGirt went back down as Ward punched himself out and Gatti started firing back.
Emmanuel Steward was SURE Arturo wasn't getting up...he looked completely finished...those two fighters were made for each other like Ali and Frazier was made for each other..
I have no idea how gatti made it,he took that body shot and somehow came back with his own punches then took even more of a beating at the end of the round,I was 11 yrs old and woke up from sleeping one night to find that fight on t.v ever since then I have been a HUGE fan of boxing watching TONS of classics and current fights,it was a "WAR".
What's amazing is that there are guys half as exciting to watch and as willing to " go for it" who make more in one fight than those guys did in their three fights combined (both purses)...
ya'll got HBO huh? i wish they would play the whole matches instead of those little 5 minute presentations.:bbb
yeah the On-Demand has those highlight 5 minute clips...not bad but u can just go to youtube and watch THE WHOLE FIGHTS...
it was the old italian/irish rivalry neither wanted to be the one to fall first for the there pride , too stubborn
