Anderson is going to finish this one before the championship rounds. He's going to hurt Sonnen every time he tries to get the fight down, and he's going to hurt him bad. Remember Sonnens face from the first fight? That was Anderson throwing elbows from the bottom. Sonnens face will bleed.
Sonnen by TKO or submission. Simply for the reason that he was dominant last time, he's even more motivated this time around, and I think he'll look to punish Anderson more with his ground and pound. I think Chael is super motivated to beat the **** out of Anderson and stop him, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he had the mental edge because of his confidence and the way the first fight went. Both of them know damned well that 90% of the last meeting was Anderson losing badly. But who the **** knows, because it's Anderson Silva, and maybe he'll just turn up and knock the living **** out of Chael, or KO him cold with one kick, or submit him without getting taken to school for 90% of the fight. Really the only scenario I see as unlikely is Anderson on points. Because I can't see Chael standing on his feet and losing rounds, and I reckon if Anderson does enough to win a decision with Chael's grappling ability and workrate, he'll do enough to get the stoppage. Tough matchup to call. I guess the safe option would be Sonnen by decision, but we can't really be confident of anything, which is what makes it such a great matchup. :conf :hat
I'm going with Anderson by TKO in round 3 or round 4. I do think the rib injury played a part last time, and I do think that Ed Soares and the UFC will ensure that Sonnen is tested properly before this fight. Sonnen will get Anderson to the ground more than once because he is just sensationally brilliant at taking people down, but once he does so he just doesn't have the firepower or the nous to finish Anderson Silva. At one point, Anderson is going to land one huge vicious punch, knee, kick or elbow on Sonnen much like he did in the 2nd round of the Hendo fight and in the 4th round of the first fight with Chael, and this time I expect him to swarm in and get the finish using lethal strikes. Sonnen won't get knocked out, but he'll be bloodied and battered, a referee TKO stoppage is my vote. Will be a great fight though, Sonnen will probably be ahead on the cards by the time the end comes.
I'm happy to see the rematch on the way, but if Anderson doesn't age overnight, he should win, and probably stop or submit Sonnen much earlier, but Sonnen will not stop with his takedowns and his pressure, and injuries aside he has the ability to take anybody down and keep him there
anderson by KO. a ped riddled sonnen fought as hard as he could against an injured silva with the element of surprise on his side and STILL lost. silvas not ganna **** around this time. chael is leaving in a meatwagon. **** id laugh if it was another last round triangle choke/arm bar though. that would be just too funny for words.
PS: I'm not very confident though. Wouldn't be remotely surprised if Sonnen ground out the win in a similar fight to last time. His strength against Stann was unreal. And I mean unreal.
If I had to bet my life on one specific outcome, I would say Sonnen by points. But then, it's Anderson Silva FFS. So I would feel instinctively like the correct answer is "Anderson by KO" :hat
Anderson by KO, I have no idea why people want Sonnen to win. Anderson is much more entertaining to watch and a gentlemen outside of the win. If Silva does lose I guess the good thing is we get to see him move up
I dont want to live in a world where sonnen beats silva. Reckon Silva by stoppage. Hes going to be uninjured and motivated. Silva only performs his best when he feels like the other guy is a legit threat i think, hes a bit like ali in that respect. When your that good you probably have to feel threatened to truly show your greatness.
The rib injury, being emotionally invested and not respected what Sonnen would bring to the ring had to factor in. I think Silva will be fit, much calmer in response to Sonnens talk AND he'll fight a better fight strategically as his camp will be geared towards a relentless wrestler. Nevertheless, Sonnen is still a very bad stylistic match up. He is a relentless wrestler who mixes that approach with strikes and sub attempts. That isn't good news for anyone.
Ill go with the dog and pick Sonnen. But you know what? Hes a cheat, a loudmouth, bad person. Yes the right thing to do is not have a rematch.
