Roach was the brains behind Manny's performance in the first Barrera bout.

But that's not answering the question:

Was Manny as good then as he is now?

I think Barrera, Morales, and Trinidad are a clear step above the rest, and I'd rate them all next to each other on an All Time list.

After that, I'd probably go with something like

    4. Mosley
    5. Marquez
    6. Wright
    7. Calzaghe
    8. Tszyu
    9. Castillo

I really can't believe Barrera is just one vote behind Morales, seeing as he was a distant third in a thread a while ago asking who was the best between Marquez, Morales and Barrera.

Barrera getting the love he deserves. :happy

    Other.

I'd say Hopkins. The guy has had a run that is amazing, and he is still out there kicking ass.

Hopkins is absolutely on the 10 best fighters of the decade list.

Popkins mentioned him earlier in the thread as one of his four stand outs and his fifth place Oscar.

    Great post.

Marco Antonio Barrera was a special talent. He defeated some of the biggest names of his era, and bounced back from harsh defeats and poor performances on multiple occasions over a career that spanned three decades. An underrated jab in addition to hand speed, but everyone acknowledges his incredible ability to mix up his punches to body and head. Although the early comparisons to Julio Cesar Chavez would flatter Barrera, they remain justified.

Erik Morales is a razor close second.

Man, that's a really good list. I can't pick a clear cut winner for me it's a 3 way tie between Morales, Marquez, and Wright. I think Wright is just so underrated it's not even funny, but if I if I had to choose with a gun put next to my head my answer would be Morales. His losses to MAB were terribly close and he's the last man, officially at least, to beat Pacman. You could say the same about JMM, but you know how that goes. I have Morales ahead of JMM in my list of greatest Mexican fighters, but JMM isn't finished yet and he's fighting at a higher level than Morales is at the moment. I don't think many expect Morales to get very far in his comeback, but you never know. I think JLC is also harshly underrated and had he beat Floyd in the rematch or at least replicated what he did in the first fight he might of been ahead of Morales. Of that I am sure.

Mosley beat De La Hoya once. The second fight was a clear, clear win for Oscar (I had it by 5 points).

It would be much harder to justify picking Joe Calzaghe. :deal
