Joe Cortez:nono If he refs the fight as one-sided as he did the Mayweather-Hatton fight, Hopkins will win. No criticism of Mayweather here, he would beat Hatton 24/7, he is just so much better in every department. Calzaghe has got to keep this at long range to win to neutralize the influence of Cortez.

I think the biggest factor is how much speed, if any, Joe Calzaghe has lost between Kessler and Hopkins, personally. I think there are many factors more important than this referee though. Cazlaghe's hands would be another example.

Huh? If anything it's a disadvantage to Hopkins. I have a feeling Cortez paid extra close attention to Hatton because of his rough style in the past and this may be why Cortez is being brought in now - to keep an eye on Hopkins. Unless you think there is some sort of nationalistic bias...

I was way out in the boonies camping and the Foreman- Moorer fight was cosidered such a mismatch that it was on radio here in the US to drum up interest.

Then across the airwaves came the description of an "old man" lowering the boom on Michael.

Starting to get the feeling something like that might happen in this fight too.

Did you not see the fouling that Mayweather got away with in that fight? Elbows in the face, gloves pushed in the face, constant clinching whenever Hatton tried to get inside, constant ducking below the belt to avoid blows.... The list goes on. Whenever Hatton tried to initiate any action, Cortez stepped in and broke them up. All the warnings went one way to Hatton. The sad thing is though, Mayweather didn't need Cortez's help to win this fight.

I pray that Cortez does not show the same bias come April 19th.

Look, I agree Cortez did a poor job and let Mayweather get away with some fouls. But like I said Hatton is the one with reputation for being dirty and was likely watched closer.

The biggest factor is whether Calzaghe keeps his head and sticks to boxing not brawling

The biggest factor is that Calzaghe can mix it up any way, he will dominate b-hop on the inside, at range and toe to toe.

Never one fight outcome has depended so much on the judges. Hopkins is to use offset movement and Calzaghe is to play reposition and counter-counter punching all night long. The biggest factor lies within the mind of the three officials selected for this one. Cortez doesn't have a personality - I bet his wife runs the things in his household.

The right hand of Hopkins ... Calzaghe has never seen anything like that ... when it comes down to it Hopkins knows how to disguse that right hand and throws it from different angles and many different ways.

I agree. The lead right hand of Hopkins and how accurate and effective it's going to be. There's no doubt he will land his share but i think Hopkins needs to be great with this shot where it makes Calzaghe weary of committing which should slow down his work rate.

Calzaghe himself was quoted as saying he will have no problems with cortez because he does not grab and hold that is not his thing he comes to box.

Trying to impress and put on a show is also going to play a major factor in this fight ... if Joe comes to make Hopkins look old and is going to show boat then he's going to find himself in the fight of his life.

Also if Hopkins get Calzaghe hurt, he's not going to let up on him ...
