I guess we have to discuss what 'biggest' mean.

    Attendence
    Money generated
    Significance in the sport itself
    Cultural impact
    Political
    and so on

are all valid argments that carries weight

    So, what is it

    Dempsey vs Willard?
    Louis vs Schmelling?
    Rumble in the jungle?
    Mayweather vs Pacquiao?
    ...?

    ****ey v holmes

this was a black v white worldwide event at the time

****ey was americas great white hope v holmes the respected but not that liked fighter at that time.

not sure of what the worldwide audience was / but it was most talked about / biggest hyped fight that i remember.

Louis-Schmeling 2 70,000 attended the fight at the Yankee Stadium

i remember my grandad saying it had so much riding on it the fight i mean racial, cultural, political(remember it was a war going on at that time) the fight basically stopped the war at the moment HUGE FIGHT

For the majority of Americans at that time the rematch was, and to a degree remains, a simple case of good guy versus bad guy, freedom versus fascism, the United States versus Nazi Germany.
