Who is the biggest fighter you think Mayweather could beat. The fighter must be a contender who either held a belt or was on that level.

I think Mayweather could contend at 168 lbs vs the right opponent. 160 definitely. I don't see why Prime Mayweather couldn't beat 168 lbs Joe Calzaghe. They had the same reach and Mayweather's speed would humiliate the lead foot Calzaghe.

Not my cup of tea, but I wonder how Fairweather had performed against a very young and light 77-78 Michael Spinks, fighting under 170 lbs...

I think Calzaghe would absolutely batter Mayweather.

    Don’t be ridiculous.

This has to be a troll thread.

On a P4P basis, Floyd is on another level to most guys.

He’s better than Joe was, even though Joe was a great fighter himself. But it comes down to how they’d have matched up on the night stylistically. And the bigger MW and SMW fighters wouldn’t have had any respect for Floyd.

If they were the same size, his opponents would be very wary of his speed, his reach and obviously his skills. But they’re not the same size. So any world class SMW would walk Floyd down and put him on the defensive. Even if they had trouble landing flush, their size, power and aggressiveness would back him up. There’s no MW or SMW which would have let Floyd held the centre of the ring to dictate the pace. They would have pressured him from the outset and Floyd would have had a very limited offense.

No, there’s no way he could have beaten Joe. Joe was 6ft, and coming down from 200 pounds. He was a LHW on fight night. He’d have pressured Floyd with huge volume and immediately put him into a defensive shell.

Why do you think there’s 17 weight classes?

Floyd is on a completely other level to someone like Carl Froch. But he could never have beaten him. Again, he’d have had no offense to have won the fight. He’d just have been backed up, where he’d have covered up, trying not to have gotten hurt. Any MW or SMW would have been the aggressor all throughout the fight.

Ask yourself why Floyd only fought above WW just 3 times in his career. JMW was his ceiling, and he was 150 pounds with bad hands. He was also past his prime at that weight.

Sven Ottke, or if we're really testing the limits, Thabiso Mchunu.

Not so sure Jimmy Ellis would win either.

The reason there is so many is because sanctioning bodies are greedy and make more money if there's more divisions with more champions.

I know that, but I’m sure that you understood my initial point.

    The point was:

Lesser fighters than Floyd could have beaten him, up at the higher weights.

As great as he was, he wasn’t beating elite level SMW’s.

Oddly enough, he beat an elite level super middleweight widely.

    He didn’t though did he.

Canelo was a JMW back then.

Mayweather entered the ring as a jr middle and Canelo entered as a super middle or light heavyweight. Deal with it.
