… was to repeatedly say before the fight, what fantastic boxing IQ Itauma had. it was like boxing IQ only meant you had to have a great selection of punches and the ability to effortlessly throw punches in fast combinations and from different angles. Never mind being able to simply pace yourself as the rounds go by or able to adapt to different situations as they arise during a fight.
I tried to warn everybody, but as always, they didn't listen! All I saw was speed, decent punch selection and the natural advantage of being a southpaw. His footwork is rudimentary and ring IQ never tested or even required. So it was never really shown.
Just off the top of the dome: Can't cut the ring Can't clinch No inside game Moves back in straight lines Almost exclusively uses his feet for defense Doesn't utilize getting himself outside of his opponent's lead foot which is bread and butter for Southpaws Often loops his left hand instead of sending it in straight Has problems judging distance and frequently leaves himself in range to be hit/countered This is why you don't step guys up all the way until they have some serious ring time under their belts, regardless of how good they look. It takes awhile to learn this stuff.
A lot of people conflate skill with IQ and I really really don't know why. Worse still is that they also conflate speed with skill! That's how you got people saying Amir Khan and Lomachenko are very high IQ fighters, whilst in reality they were fast and flashy with their IQ's being part of their biggest weaknesses.
