Was it Foreman beating Moorer at 43 or 44?

Holyfield was 35 or so against Tyson.

Hopkin's at 36 when he beat Trinidad.

Good question, I'm not really sure. I certainly think that Foreman vs Moorer was a big one. Walcott vs Charles may be another candidate, given that Charles had already beaten Walcott twice. Difficult question to answer.

How old was Walcott at that time?

Schmeling was getting up there when he beat Louis...

I think Walcott was like 35 when he beat Charles, making him considerably younger than Foreman when he beat Moorer, but I think your intention was to look at the magnitude of the upset and not necessarily the actual age of the underdog if I'm correct. I don't know what the odds were on Jersey beating Charles, but I'm geussing that Ezzard had to be pretty heavily favored given that he was the reigning champ who had beaten Walcott twice and also taking into account Joe's age.

As for Schmeling, he was only 31 years old, so I don't really consider that to be a terribly advanced age..

Ah, thought he was older than that. Schmeling, that is.

Yeah Schmeling was past his prime, but by no means washed up.

    How about Moorer vs. Jirov?

    Decent one, I think.

Walcott was 37 and 38 when he beat ezzard charles, not 35.

I think Archie Moores Draw against Willie Pastrano at age 45 is extremley impressive. Archies Dominating knockout victory at age 44 against # 4 rated 6'4 212lb heavyweight contrender alejandro lavorante whom he put in a coma was impressive.

Hopkins win at 43 over Winky Wright rates up high

Willie pep nearly beat featherweight champion hogan kid bassey at age 44, way ahead on the cards in the 9th.

Dick Tiger beat Nino Benvenuti at 40 years old

Eddie Cotton was robbed against Jose Torres at 39 years old

Foreman over Moorer at 45 years old

Larry Holmes beat Ray Mercer at 42 years old

Elmer Ray beat Ezzard Charles at 37 years old

you're right. I guess I figured that because he fought Marciano a bit later at age 37, that he was around two years younger when he beat Charles, but the time frames aren't that far appart.

Exactly......Everyone dismisses charles as fighting a old walcott, but blames marciano for fighting a old walcott.

YET.....3 of the 4 charles-walcott fights took place LESS than 1 year from marciano-walcott I.

I have walcott vs charles I on film 1949 rounds 14 and 15, charles looks amazing incredible fluidness on his toes. walcott looks sharp too.

Corrie Sanders dusting Wladimir Klitschko in 2 rounds at age 37 certainly was a bit upset. I just got the British version of this fight, i like those commentators. They were going wild, obviously.

Are there any knockdowns ? And how close was that fight ?

I've got a few rounds of the 2nd fight, but am missing the 9th round where I believe Charles knocked Walcott down.

I've seen a clip of Charles knocking Walcott down with a very quick type of "check hook" (as Mayweather would call it), and I wonder whether that's from the 1949 fight or the 9th round of their 2nd meeting.

Have you heard the Anglophone South African version on youtube? Incomprehensible at times, but very exciting. Of course, if there is an Afrikaans version out there, that would presumably world for you as well.

I didn't know Wlad Klitschko- Corrie Sanders was broadcast on British TV.
