I think the biggest visible difference from Jones Jr of say 1998 and Jones Jr of 2012 isn't actually handspeed/power - it's distance control and legspeed.

Jones Jr used to be a master at controlling distance, closing the gap to execute and getting out of harms way without taking punches even on his gloves

Jones Jr of the last few fights tends to hover within range a lot more, is much slower to close the distance to get off his shots and then get out again before he's caught with the counter action.

I think ultimately he still has legitimately quick hands for the weight class and while his power has gone down, it's more so because he's not in a position to execute the shots due to his distance control.

I think if he got better at distance control, he'd at least be a credible fighter against decent opposition.

He admittedly has balance problems since his KOs. Won't be improving his distance control anytime soon.

No the biggest diffrence is that HE'S 43 !

I mean can we expect a 43 yr old to move like a 23 yr old ?

Once his legs went his ability to controll range and to get out of the way of punches declined dramatically !

His problem is he can't let his hands go anywhere. He's too worried about getting hit, and his chin , if he ever had one, has 0 resistance. One of the worst chins I've seen on somebody with as many fights as he's had. He is totally shot .

He is 43 will be 44 in 6 months, in other words, he is old as ****. 43 yr olds are NOT meant to be competitive athletes.

Hopkins is 47 and gave a good performace agaist the best LHW Chad Dawson and previously dethroned Jean PAscal. At 43 he gave a boxing lesson to the then rising star Kelly Pavlik.
