you're correct. hopkins had trouble during the later rounds because cal was starting to hit him with crisper and harder punches which made him back off into the corner and it became harder for him to use his dirty tactics (clinching) against cal when the fight progressed
Good analysis imo, calzaghe dropped his workrate about round 4 to not get countered as much as he was early on, and it was huge factor in the fight, he adapted more than b-hop did plain and simple.... hopkins looked brilliant in bursts now and again but it wasnt enough, b-hop threw more than usual yeah which i think was reflected in the fact that he had to fake a low blow for 4 mins rest late in the fight which was pathetic imo.
To me the big factor in this fight was that Hopkins doesn't have the stamina he once had and as the fight progressed he visibly tired from having to deal with Calzaghe's relentless pressure. A younger Hopkins would have spun Calzaghe around and reversed attacks. He also would have attacked at least on a few occassions. Don't get me wrong though. Hopkins is a marvel at 43 years old but his legs and reflexes aren't the same. What we saw was the Hopkins that evolved over the last several years. A guy who struggles with quicker hands much as he did with Taylor. A Hopkins that is perfect for the likes of a low output Tarver.
I think Joe could't adaopt to Hopkins fight plan, and Brnard did exactly what he said he woud do= make Joe fight his fight, but after the thid rd, it seemed hat Joe caught on and performed better, but stil seemed to be more watchfull of Nards' straight right
You guys keep talking about how Hopkins didn't land his right hand enough. What about all the times he missed. After about the 6th, he was missing them quite a bit.
That is correct, Joe looked frustrated and not sure how to handle Nards' style, even the announcers were sayin, especially Steward, that Calzaghe was getting looser as the middle rounds came on
