Stating the obvious, but what a crazy pair of fights those were. I remember when I was watching the 2nd fight and I was worried that Bowe would die in there, and for the fight as a whole, I couldn't quite believe what I was watching. Amazing fight. The second fight is one of the most violent beatdowns you'll ever see in the ring. Really, they should have considered stopping it. Then again, I thought by the end, Bowe earned his victory. I think right before Golota got DQ'd, Bowe it him with a tremendous counter that visibly shook Golota, and looked to take him out of his game again.
I completely agree, and what's incredible is he was doing that to Riddick ****ing Bowe, not some B or C level fighter! It was those two fights that turned me into a Golota fan. That fight should have been stopped. In the end both men were probably never the same, not just Bowe.
It's always like that. Some people can't accept the fact that fighters they don't like are actually good. Go away.
Golata was beating the living Sh*t out of Bowe. I could never figure out why he threw the fight away by fouling him. He had the fight in the bag.
A few months before the 1st Golota fight Bowe came off a win over Evander Holyfield. He was hardly shot. Let's not also forget that Bowe came into the 2nd Golota fight in the best shape of his career. Bowe became a "shot" fighter after the brutal Golota beatings.
I think Golota Quit because he could not put Bowe away. Golota Knew Bowe would caught him eventually and knock him out.
I think he was a shot fighter after the first fight..... for which he came in quite a bit overweight. The signs were there in previous fights that he was starting to slide, he was out on his feet a couple of times against Hide, and only beat Holyfield because Evander ran out of gas and couldn't finish Bowe off. He looked in good shape for the 2nd fight.... but it was clear from an early stage that he was an old fighter - though you can't fault his courage managing to survive the 2nd round :deal
Your right. Near the end, Bowe did nail Golota with a straight right hand (maybe the only one he's ever thrown!) that would have killed a lesser man. You could see that AG went numb, but kept on going. That 3 punch combo to the nuts to end it was just crazy! Had Golota been able to hang in there, without the lowblows & win that fight, I think things would have turned out considerably different for Golota. Like HW belts & dominance in the division for awhile. But thats not the way it went, unfortunately.:-(
