Nah, Golota didn't have the energy to keep beating up Bowe and said **** it. He did what he had to do and ended it.
Bowe's motor skills were deteriorating before this fight. He did an interview on ESPN, and, while he was trim, his speech pattern was so bad, it was hard to understand what he was saying.
Those fights represented the best Golota looked because he really handled Bowe in both fights. It's too bad he never regained that championship form later on when he needed it against Lewis, Tyson and others.
Watch the clips and you'll know why. More exciting then anything we've ever seen from the Klit sisters. Golota looked like Jack Dempsey in there.
Its true. I suspect Golota had crippling anxiety issues before his fights. He always appeared stiff and nervous when entering the ring as well as in the first round. There were rumours that people often had to force him out of the dressing room. The bad press he got for the low blows probably magnified this problem. However, his much later fights with Byrd and Ruiz were pretty good redemptions. He was no where near as good as in his early years, but mentally, he finally managed to put it together. In the middle of his career, his overlooked fight with Corey Sanders was another epic and bloody fight.
I don't care in what condition Bowe was, no one can deny Golota's superb offensive arsenal in these fights, along with his very good head and foot movement. Everything was crisp, snappy and accurate and it came it multiple punch outputs. Outside of a one punch KO power, physically Golota had it all back then.
Yes, it is. I've been all over the internet trying to find footage, but can't find any. In the youtube segment I did find, Lampley and Merchant thank George for protecting them, but they don't show the footage. That was a long time ago, and I was drinking, but I remember watching George standing in the corner, hands up, with the announcers behind him. He was dropping guys who were running up on him with one shot, BING! BING! BING! Just laying guys out cold, with one shot. I've done some dumb **** in my life, but I think running up on George Foreman and picking a fight surpasses even my high levels is idiocy! :rofl
Golota did have one punch KO power. It didn't happen often but he had it. Golota had it all, but he also had some mental issues.
I believe Futch was in his corner for the first Golota fight. The fact that he left after that probably speaks a little to he felt whether Bowe was past it. But Futch always had problems with Bowe's between fight habits....perhaps they culminated enough for Futch to finally leave. We'll never know unless Bowe explains the reasoning for Futch leaving. Wasn't there some talk on this in the HBO Legendary Nights episode??
for those who believe that bowe was shot give any other fighter name that was shot before 28? he was 29 during the second fight so if he was shot at that time he must had been shot earlier, right? at least at 28 or earlier
Wilfred Benitez Meldrick Taylor Fernando Vargas (more or less) I'm not sure Bowe was necessarily shot, but he had declined some. Even the NSAC doctors said they were surprised how his reactions and reflexes and motor skills were for a 29 year old.
Physically speaking, Bowe looked better than a lot of heavyweights do today, even in that first fight with Golota. Although he weighed a lot in that fight, the pounds seem to be nicely distributed throughout his entire body. His trunks are high though so I can't see his belly.
