I wasn't too nervous before my first bout. I had no idea what to expect so I just turned up and got on with it.

After my first bout when I knew what it was all about I was a nervous wreck for 2-3 days before. I couldn't sleep the night before, I couldn't eat on the day and every time I thought about my fight I felt sick with dread.

TBH, I don't know even to this day what exactly I was so worried about.

Was it fear of getting hurt ? I don't think so. This has never been an issue in sparring. If this was the case I wasn't consciously aware of this being a concern.

Was it fear of being humiliated? I don't think so. I never boxed in front of friends or family and I had nothing to prove to any of the spectators. If this was the case I wasn't consciously aware of this being a concern.

All I know is that every time I thought about a forth coming bout I had the feeling of dread but I couldn't put my finger on what exactly was causing me to feel like that.

Worst part is waiting for the bell to go ... "second's out, round 1" ... I would start thinking this was a very bad idea haha.

Must say, I think my nerves helped me fight though.
