only one belt per division and for the sport to be centralised with one governing body meaning that the pay scales are more evely divided from top to bottom and that fighters must fight more often.

That would erase this site from history as well.

I like that there are multiple belts per division(I'm probably the only one). There are way too many fighters to have just 1 belt. However, what would be great, is if they took a page out of Golf's book. In golf, they have a tournament once a year between the winners of the four majors.

It would be great if there were a tournament every 2 or 3 years between the 4 major champs(I'll consider the WBO a major champ for this event). If there is a unified champ, the org. of that champ can place their highest rated conteder in the tournament.

So if there is a WBC, WBA, and then a WBO/IBF champ; then the WBC, and WBA would have their champ in the tourney, the unified champ would be in the tourney, and then the WBO and IBF would have their top rated contenders fight eachother for the fourth spot.

Surely having that makes a unified champ and therefore makes one champ in the division, is that not the same thing?
I think one champ would make for more bigger fights as all the contenders would be fighting it out with each other to get the prestigious title shot.

id prefer a league system instead,in reality there are only around 6-10 real contenders per division and this would lead to some exciting bouts with genuine rivalry with extra points for ko's etc. this would allow for maybe a playoff of the top 4 at the end of the season.

in honesty i just want to see the lower end of boxing being better represented financially and for boxers at the top end to be more active (much more).

So far the three key ones (except for removing Lennox) are

    15 Round championship fights
    1 Sanctioning body
    Fewer weight classes

I submit to the boxing purists - getting to one sanctioning body means we CAN continue to exist with more than original weight classes. 1 Body 1 champ per class means talent still has to fight in every class.

The biggest problem is the sanctioning bodies not the weight classes.

The winner of the tourney would be the undisputed champ. However, being that the tourney would be every 3 years, it would be a safe bet that the winner would lose, retire, move up in weight, or get stripped of one or more of his titles before the next tournament started.

Holyfield is doing the sport no favors, but I think Oscar is.

I see what youre saying but it would be more simple to let it play out the whole time with one champ and the contenders earn the right to fight him. If its only done every few years in mean time youd still have one champ although unified he'd either remain unified, lose his unified belts to one man or you end up with the sanctioning bodys having different contenders and it being the mess its in now.

Under my proposal, not only does the mess get cleaned up every few years, but people also get a fair shot at a title. In order to have one sanctioning body, you need a commisioner that would run a league similar the NBA. However, even if you do this, there's no guarentee that another league won't pop up. That's what originally happened in boxing, and that's the case with MMA.

Bascially, having one sanctioning body is, from a practical standpoint, impossible. Another sanctioning body will always pop up when they are dissatisfied with the status quo. Good fighters will be more than willing to fight for the other sanctioning bodies titles, as they will be sick of waiting in line for their title shot.
