Kid Howard, on why he was closing his gym in an article for St Joseph News.

1937 - Jack Dempsey knows his own game. When he says boxing will be washed up within a year, unless something's done, he's talking straight from his heart.

    Jack Dempsey

1963 - “The experts have been saying for years that boxing is dying because kids no longer are hungry, because boxing no longer is the way for a poor kid to get rich quick.”
    LA Times

2008 - "You guys are a dying breed.... your sport is getting swallowed. The famous people you have right now are the only famous people that will exist in the future for boxing... the Oscar de la hoyas, Hopkins, jermain taylors... the guys that were already famous before UFC came along, THERE WILL BE NO NEW ONES. "
    Joe Rogan

2009 - 'Why Is Boxing Slowly Dying? And Can It Be Saved?' Article by Mark Hauser, for BleacherReport.

2011 - Boxing Is Flat Out Dead In America and Fading Fast
Allen Hmiel: "Boxing is dead in America surpassed by way to many other popular sports. Even the exciting action filled MMA events have captured the American viewing audiences. American boxing without a talented champion heavyweight to rally around and support has brought upon the demise and eventual end of boxing in the USA. Lackluster U.S heavyweights, basically a talentless group of large men who cannot fight due to a lack of elite boxing ability has driven the popularity of American boxing to new lows and has greased the skids into obscurity. "
    BoxingNews24

2013 - The Last Great American Prizefighter
"Floyd never breaks stride, his chin held high as he inhales the last of his sport's oxygen in the dying light of a summer evening"
    ESPN.com

2013 - “He’s the last headliner out there in professional boxing,” stated Wilbon about Mayweather.
“What other names do you know? You know the Klitschko name, that’s it. Who else do you know,” said Kornheiser.
“He’s the last guy out there for a sport that’s all but dead,” said Wilbon. “This is it. It’s over for boxing after this.”
    Pardon The Interruption, ESPN

    2015
Mayweather-Pac and the Death of Boxing

"The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was boxing’s swan song. Without the buzz and possibility of a rematch with a Pacquiao win, Dana White, UFC and mix martial arts will consume the fighting world, if they hadn’t already"
    Forbes.com

    2015 :
Boxing is Dead, and All You Posers Killed It.

"When boxing was alive and well, going to war with an opponent was every bit as important as good footwork, good speed, and good conditioning. You knew at some point that you had to fight. But Floyd made a career of showing us that’s no longer the case. And in the process, he neutered a once noble sport and suckered all of you into supporting his efforts.

So boxing is dead, and you — hashtag tweeters, social media braggarts, people who know nothing about what youre supporting; are mostly responsible."
    Inquisitr.com

    2015 :
WHY MAYWEATHER PACQUIAO WILL BE BOXINGS LAST SUPERFIGHT
"No one is there to carry the torch as MMA fighting grows by leaps and bounds"
    Market.watch.com

    2019 :
Boxing is dead and the sport has only its internal politics to blame
    By DYLAN HERNANDEZ
    LA Times

"The intention here isn’t to denigrate the quality card that will be staged in the arena on Sept. 28. Rather, it’s to provide a snapshot of the state of the sport.

    Boxing is dead."

Boxing at the moment is not at good condition because most of the stars of boxing are near retirement and there isn't many young boxers that look like they could be future stars. It does look really bad because all the divisions look quite weak in regards to greatness, but a great boxer will come along, they always do.

If you ask me, the death of boxing occurred in 2002, when Mike Tyson stepped into the ring to fight Lennox Lewis. That was not a real fight, and the quality of boxing has continued to drop off since then.

Professor Ned Donelly, The art of boxing, 1879

The professors of boxing in 1879 didn't know sh*t about boxing in comparison to the fighting techniques of today.

Really makes you wonder how much further it can or will progress over the next 100 years. Will it be hilarious to see a fighter only using 1 stance in 2050?

All this talk about the dearth of boxing is way overplayed. Thanks to Al Haymon there's more fight cards and boxing on free TV now than there has been for decades but still people whinge and cry that there isn't enough. :patsch

I remember a few years back how MMA fans claimed boxing is dying. 7, 8 years later there is still no change. No one cares about MMA, boxing lives.

DiBella was really cool at first. Made some good points but they got under his skin real fast
I forgot that UFC was around since 1993. ****, i was born then :!:
    (Hopkins - Jones Jr 1993:tong)
UFC has done quite well TBH but to me it seems like they shot themselves in the leg with the PPV just like boxing did with premium cable networks.
The most ironic part of MMA is the TapOut brand.

Boxing is a beautiful sport, it can't die. There will always be people who appreciate the science, yeah there's MMA/UFC and whatever which are more "exciting" but boxing is about fighting as an artform which MMA to many is not.
