LOL! Yes that’s right, the Bomber married 2 hours before fight time. Imagine presenting as a temp. C-Block to Joe Louis? Coitus delayus - I wonder if the 4 round destruction counted as foreplay? Joe, very much hot to the Trotter. All good, I’ll show myself out……..

Sophisticated in the sense that they are the result of scientific development. Applying them may be simple (although sometimes they're cycled, etc., apparently), but creating them took technical ingenuity.

Sure, in so far as PEDs, I’ve always understood the “sophistication” you were referring to - thus my reply distinguishing gains achieved by actual physical input/exertion. Suffice to say, PEDs are not natural and since their integration, new definitions and interpretations have been applied to dignify them and fit them into otherwise more regular training and conditioning. Good point re more complex cycling etc., which I am aware of but don’t know enough about the methods to comment further.

I know very little about the details of cycling, etc. either. Aside from the bare fact that it is done, requires some level of knowledge to do well, and is apparently effective.

I agree PEDs are an unnatural and (I'll go further) regrettable development in sports. But we're stuck with them if we want to make cross era comparisons. Evan Fields is the only version of Holyfield we ever saw winning a title, so if we want to match 1967 Ali against the lineal champ who succeeded Buster Douglas, Fields is all we've got.

Louie Simmons, the strength training guru admits that he doesn't cycle. He openly admits using PEDs since 1970 without stopping/cycling. He he has told plenty of people in interviews, including Joe Rogan in 2016. Simmons is 74 years old now, and he probably hasn't stopped yet. If you put his name and steroids in a search engine you'll find plenty of articles where he admits using steroids, even saying something like, "using steroids is not illegal in sports, getting caught is." He also says that the dangers of steroids are exaggerated. He might have a point, I've heard that he was still squatting over 900 pounds in his 60s when a lot of non-PED users have a hard time getting up from the sofa.

Everyone has different experiences, but my experiences have convinced me that in sports, pre-PED athletes (as they were) could not compete with PED athletes. If you want to do a cross era "comparison" you have to assume that the pre-PED athlete would benefit from the PED to the same degree as the PED era athlete. Then you have a pre-PED athlete that never really existed...PEDs work, as somebody on this forum wrote once, "if a person changed tires for a living, using PEDs would make him a much better tire changer."

Everybody says they wish there was a "level playing field", without PEDs in sports, but would fans pay to watch people compete who weren't as big, strong, and athletic as the neighbor who worked out in his garage and used PEDs?
