The boy that would be King: Rey Vargas returns Saturday.

The wunderkind and Nacho Beristáin pupil is set to co-headline a Televisa card, along with a WBC female light flyweight title bout, with his opponent TBA.

For anyone unfamiliar with the lanky, technically sound, hard punching 24 year old super bantamweight: here's a clue. He's promising enough that he is the SOLE reason for the venerable Señor Beristáin electing to stay in the sport after Dinamita Márquez retires.

He is one not to be missed. :deal

 

I don't want to go nuts and say he's the next Chocolatito or anything, but IMO he is the closest to it of all the young prospects.

 

I hope the opponent is decent even on short notice. This kid needs some progression!

 

I'm not expecting too stiff a challenge but hoping at least for a tough journeyman who can give him rounds.

This, by the way, is the only major boxing event televised on Saturday night (the afternoon has a British and German card of equal import, and McDonnell vs. Kameda II will be Sunday night)

Anyway, yeah, the scene where he talks about "carrying that uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for years" was was a real tear-jerker. Oscar-worthy. I mean, a WHOLE convection oven? That's almost too big to credibly believe could fit in that ass. (on which Industrial Light & Magic did a terrific job, for the record...also Oscar-worthy. No way a mere fatsuit could've accomplished that same visual effect)

Not bad. Went the distance with Vicente, Kennedy, and B****. The only person to stop him in the last nine years is Mikey Garcia, and Gonzalez quit on his stool there.

Rey should get some rounds in.
