The brawl in Porthcawl: Dick Richardson v Brian London

Great post. Hadn't seen that 2008 interview or the ko of that German. London's responsible for some of the funniest scenes ever in a ring.

 

I remember reading about the London-Richardson incident many years ago... but i have never heard about the controversial fight in Germany before this.

How the h*** did Richardson get away with that (and in Germany!) without being DQ'd?? I guess the referee must have felt, that the German was finished even before the last couple of punches, and was in the process of counting him out on his feet. Still, you can't sneak up behind the ref in the middle of a count and attack a defenceless opponent like that. That's crazy! And to think that Richardson actually went back to Germany a year later, at that same venue, for a return with Kalbfell. Takes a brave man to do that, me thinks!

 

Dunno if you mean the same guy but the stout bald fella was his father jack london, a decent pro in his day.

 

the tall guy hitting everyone was londons brother jack junior who did box as an amatuer. when their father jack london (who fought freddie mills and tommy laughren)was british champion both boys were often photographed together. as is often the case with brothers who box one was beter on the street than in the ring...
