I swear I've read about him before, can't for the life of me remember his exact name. He was a slave and was shipped over to England from the US if memory serves.

Tom Molineaux a former slave came over and fought Tom Cribb the British barenuckle champion in 2010 it was expected to be over quickly. Molineaux gave Cribb a tough fight however the crowd rushed into the ring in the 19th and in the confusion Molineaux broke his hand and was eventually stopped in the 35th

In the return in 2011 which was watched by 15 000 people Cribb broke Molineaux's jaw and knocked him out in the 11th.

Yes I remember a very good documentary they put on TV about 10 years ago about Tom's Life story and the battle with Cribb (obviously you meant 1811). I also remember either hearing it on the docu or by looking up stuff on Tom at that time that he was related to the great 1930's LHW John Henry Lewis. Ive just looked this up somewhere just now and Tom was in fact Johns great/great uncle!. Could have posed that as a some sort of 'who am I' Henry Kelly type thing.
Also pleased to say that ive just checked good ol you tube and found the tv documentary that i saw on the telly. I'm gonna rewatch that myself now!. well worth a watch for any whos never seen it.:thumbsup

Just started watching this myself now and it starts out about another black guy/boxer called Bill Richmond who later finds Tom Molineaux and trains him up as his protege. in case anyone watches and thinks this aint about Tom!! wtf
