The British Boxing Board of Control does not understand boxing

    This stuff sells fights and generates interest. But no, the British Boxing Board of Control wants to take all of the fun out of Press conferences.


    Dereck Chisora's fight against British heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte on Saturday in Manchester will go ahead - but will no longer be for the title.

    Chisora threw a table at Whyte in Wednesday's news conference.

    He has received a two-year ban from boxing, which comes in if he commits another offence, been fined £25,000 and told to pay another £5,000 in costs.

    The British Boxing Board of Control withdrew their sanction for the fight being for the title, which Whyte keeps.

    He has not been punished.

    It remains a WBC world heavyweight title eliminator fight, but the pair will weigh in at different times and not face-off.

    There will also be a hearing at a later date to discuss any action towards the other people at the melee.

    During Wednesday's news conference, promoters and coaches sat between the pair but Chisora, 32, picked up the table and threw it at his rival, with security stepping in.

    That came after Whyte, 28, told Chisora he would attack him after the fight if he saw him. Chisora, who has six defeats from 32 fights, said he was reacting to a threat on his life.

    The fight was due to be the first British title defence for Whyte, whose only defeat in 20 professional fights was by IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

    The board are clueless if they think fans don't want to see stuff like this.

    This is the fight business and with that St times you get angry people.

    It wasn't even that bad, nobody got hurt.

    The British Boxing Board of Control are correct.

    The only posssible mistake is perhaps others (including Whyte and some in his camp) should be punished too, because by most accounts it wasn't just Chisora who was out of order.

    I understand why the BBBOC did what they did but truth be told it wasn't a bad thing for boxing what happened in the press conference, it got people talking and that's the aim of the game, all publicity is good publicity.

    Whyte was in the wrong, a thug who threatens to end his opponent outside of boxing during the press conference for the fight! How is he not punished?!

    Chisora did nothing wrong. Flipped some little table thing, whats the big deal? Fury flipped a table too.

    This fight should be for the British title and they are making the British title less relevant by not putting it on the table, because now it will just be for ranking points with the world title straps.

    Spastics at the British boxing board of control. How many IQ points between the board- 50 including the cleaner?

    You need to do some research on Chisora's out of the ring antics, before you start playing judge, jury and executioner.

    You haven't got a clue what you're banging on about.

    In short term this type of thing is perhaps good for a PPV event but in long term is is very bad for the sport.

    Puts off sponsors and does not help people at the grassroots level of the sport when are trying to use boxing to encourage young people out of a life of crime and trouble.

    If anything the BBB of C let Chisora off lightly.
