The Gatti who got beat by Ward in there first fight could well have beaten Ricky Hatton (even though he lost)

    "...in Blighty you..." ???

We've been over this ground before and we agreed to differ.

Prime Jones, IMO, would have beaten prime Calzaghe.

    Hopkins ?

    No.

And it's been clearly shown numerous times that Hopkins agreed to fight Calzaghe in 2002, only to change his mind and demand double what he'd previously agreed to. So any blame for Hops/Calzaghe not happening rests with Bernard.

And on the skill level, I believe he was much more skilled than Hatton, and thus the point of my post was to decry the OP's lumping of him in with Hatton just because they both come from the same general part of the world.

Agree on the whole especialy with lewis, although i think calzaghe is also an exception and whilst he was probably over-protected and had injury troubles the man at the moment is the best around. I also think the hopkins win is a genuine one (not a controversial win over a shot fighter). I just think its a shame he never had the fights to show what a talent he is.

Also on teh flip side, its not just the brits who are like that...Jeff Lacy / Kelly Pavlik anyone?

I think Calzaghe is a legit ATG. I know many people think I hate British fighters. I don't. What I hate are Glass Jawed frauds that are hyped to the moon and then knocked out cold example Amir Khan & Enzo Maccarinelli.

Some of these fighters that people call frauds have something in common and that something is Frank Warren. I think it is he and not the fighters that get them this stigma by his crappy match making. It took him how long to really let Calzaghe step up? Years. Calzaghe was ready to fight better fighters YEARS before Warren allowed him to.

Another thing is most of these British fighters get the WBO belt who often have atrocious rankings and even worse mandatory challengers that they saddle their champions with over and over.

Look at Lennox Lewis he too is a legit ATG. Went out and fought the best early in his career. Do you think if he was with Warren he would have done this? Hell no.

    :good
