A British LW tournament would be decent but lets be honest most of the fights have already happened, we've had Mitchell/Murray, Crolla/Matthews and Rees/Matthews etc. so if it's going to be dragged out over a 12/18 month period I'd rather not bother.

You can see the winner getting a shot at Burns too I don't care what Billy says, Sky are absolutely intent on getting him in with domestic nobodies. If anyone on that lists beats all the others they still don't really deserve a shot at Burns in my opinion. So far we've got Beltran who has already lost 6 times, if he is followed up with a domestic rival regardless of whatever tournament they've won people are really going to turn on Hearn.

In a perfect world id like to see walsh and scott harrison thrown in the mix aswell. Curtis woodhouse being in there would be interesting, I could see him upsetting a couple of the faves.

    8 fighters...

Rees, Crolla, Mitchell, Gethin, Mathews, Coyle, Woodhouse and Flanagan (give or take somebody if you have others in mind). I'd have it as a straight knock out instead of a Super 6 type league.

Have a draw on Ringside (un-seeded) have the first round on it's own card. Semi-finals on another card with a few prospects on the undercard and then have the final of it as the main support for a Burns' defence.

    Winner gets Burns.

I think Mitchell would destroy him, Curtis is a nice lad, interviews well but he isn't very good lets be honest.

Why does the winner get Burns exactly? Because they won a domestic tournament against other domestic or European level fighters and happen to share the same promoter?

Why would Burns want to fight any of the names mentioned? What if Woodhouse wins somehow (no disrespect to Curtis at all please don't hunt me down and batter me!) and ends up fighting for a world title? How can that possibly be justified by anyone, a world belt holder of almost 3 years fighting an ex footballer that scraped through a domestic tournament against limited fighters with numerous losses?

Why not just do away with world titles altogether, do away with any remnant of prestige and get rid of this crazy idea that the best boxers should fight each other, and just let Sky put on whatever show they want that costs them the least and makes them the most money.

I'm starting to think that the lack of international boxing on Sky is actually a conspiracy. They're hoping that if the causal fans that only watch boxing on Sky keep watching guys like Crolla and Matthews they'll somehow forget about all the other American, Canadian, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and German fighters out there that could actually have a chance against one of their cash cows. That posters on here are actually getting excited about or even validating the idea that the winner of this hypothetical tournament deserves a world title shot scares me a little bit.

i see your point but boxing is a business as well as a sport people sometimes get things they dont quite deserve, if the tournement got good expose and rating the winner v burns would sell, even if the winner could get a final eliminater for burns, its just the reward for the tournement.

look at the contender series did manfredo jnr deserve a shot at calzaghe or chavez jnr NO but he got it off the back of that

Fair enough, we shouldn't forget however that Calzaghe is regularly castigated and dismissed as an ATG because he took fights like Manfredo Jr and rematched Veit. If Burns wants to make money and be remembered for having dull fights against inferior domestic opponents that didn't really deserve a shot at him then by all means press ahead with this fantastic tournament.

If he wants any respect from the boxing world however, rather than just Sky viewers, he'll have to do a lot lot better than that and so will Eddie Hearn. The more people make excuses for this dross the more Sky will serve it up, everyone is starting to think like a promoter instead of a fan and it's really winding me up today for some reason. Why are we making excuses like "It makes financial sense" it's not like we're getting the money is it, we're paying for it in fact with our subscriptions. I don't care if there have been less deserving opponents in the past as that's the past but I'm not going to be supporting any future mismatches because people like Allegedly have set a precedent for shocking fights.

great idea would prefer a knock out tournament rather than a super6 style which drags on too long. if they did the 1st quarter finals on the same night would make for a great card.

there should be more top quality domestic fights on sky im sure they create more interest to the viewers than a string of argies / ttgs that have been getting shipped over and create more atmosphere and sell more tickets for the live crowd.

domestic have provided the best fights on sky this year aswell mostly a combination of crolla and matthews.

no problem if the winner fought burns either for these reasons unless it comes at the expense of a unification or big name. burns vs mitchell was highly anticipated fight.

See to be honest if this tournament happens and I think it's a great idea,to suggest the winner fights Ricky would IMO be wrong coz the tournament would take 12 months minimum ans I'd like Ricky looking at LWW around that time

Is it not wrong because Burns is a level above those fighters, as he proved by defeating Mitchell already, and as you yourself Billy have claimed on this forum many times (the Crolla thread for example) ?

Also, please tell me that Ricky's move to LWW isn't going to be happening before his unification fight that we've all been waiting so long to materialise?
