Crazy person. I rate Ali #1 all time. I've read The Greatest, The Fight, The Hauser book etc. etc. etc. etc. Happy?
It basically says that loads of fighters take their opponent for granted and still beat the **** out of them.
Engage in what? I can only go so far in debates but when one realises that they're dealing with yet another of the "he had a cream cake three weeks before the fight" brigade, I lose interest. :yep
There seems to be a bit of blue sky between our predictions for this match up. What do you think of my suggestion that Joe Frazier would represent a greater threat to Louis than Foreman would?
If you haven't read it yet, McGrain, Jeremy Schaap's recent bio on Braddock is quite well researched and is a top quality read (in my opinion anyways), and may be something you're interested in picking up if you're a big fan of his.
To tell you the truth i think George is the slightly bigger threat. I base this on his better chin and bigger punch, especially since he had less disparity between wings as well. I think Louis is a chance of getting Frazier out of there pretty quick and therefore negating his sizzling stamina down the stretch. I'm not one to pick everyone over Fraze early either, i do so here due to Louis' overwhelming speed, power, accuracy and countering ability. I think he could straighten him up early and seal the deal. Foreman IMO will be far harder to get out of there early, before he's had his chance to get some licks in as well.
Louis has the stylistic tools to give Foreman hell. I think he wins by late stoppage. Louis TKO12 Foreman
In asessing Louis's strengths and weakneses I would say that he is almost unbeatable at mid range aqnd that those who have troubled him have generaly done so by usning the inside and outside. Louis seems to look verry uncomfortable when sombody infights him. While he might as you say blow Frazier out early he might also dcide to take a few rounds to soften him up first and let Frazier get into his stride. Against Foreman I don't see any stylistic pitfalls.
Riiiiiiiiiigh, so Frazier's worsening eyesight and diminishing hunger can be dismissed as trivial? And by the way, you've quoted my question about Braddock's power. So this post actually makes even less sense than it would if you were talking about the right fighter.
And back again. You really are the very best at ignoring those parts of a post you don't feel confident about. Since HomicidalHank has beat a retreat I would have to place you at #1. But if Hank returns, I will change it back again.
