calzaghe wins both! i see a tougher fight with hopkins, if its the same toney as the jones fight anyway.....

I even see a UD on both cards........

People forget all to often that joe is a good few years past his best, a good few.......

    Great logic :patsch

You are a complete idiot and should just stay out of Joe Calzaghe threads as you are a known hater of him and always fail to be objective.

and some people forget that he fought no-one "at his best" to put him on the same plane as a guy like toney or hopkins.

why dont you tell him why he's wrong instead of condemning him with that same "logic".

    if you can, that is.

A young B-Hop was not as experienced as he was now, nor was he a SMW/LHW. Also, clearly B-Hop was defensive against Calzaghe because he knew he had to be; against someone slow and plodding like Pavlik he opened up. Do you honestly think he would try that against Calzaghe if they were to rematch or....dare I say it, if Joe C moved up and challenged B-Hop after Hopkins beat Tarver????

I know it's a cliche that Toney is one of the most gifted boxers of all time that just couldn't be bothered, but it's true, and Calzaghe would've beaten him.

And, Calzaghe has a great chin, so I don't even think the Toney that battered Nunn in their fight would've K.O'd Calzaghe. I'd say Calzaghe 116-112 over Toney.

BTW, I travelled to Wales to see Calzaghe beat Kessler and STILL had B-Hop Joe C a draw. So I'm not a nuthugger either.

maybe not but you're still comparing a talented fighter who never made the jump across the pond to the fighters he could be legitimately compared against if he had.

why is it always a Europeans fault? If you ask me, Lacy had the right idea challenging Calzaghe over here? He showed no fear. It's always up to us to go over to the States, when, in fact the live revunues here have huge potential.

Let's be honest, all of these things are stupid. Joe C will fall into the Marciano mould if he retires after Jones....was a considerable talent but didn't fight anyone of decent stature until late on in his career.

Only, some of us will know better.

For example, Toney wasted some of his time fighting for IBA titles, and the criticism levelled at B-Hop is that his best wins are against people coming up in weight.

Now, I actually rate B-Hop very highly, the wins over so-called 'bloated' fighters well because I remember how touted DLH/Trinidad/Pavlik were going in. I also have huge respect for Toney's skill and his fights with Jirov/Nunn etc etc.

If we didn't do this comparing and speculate on would've happened we would simply be commenting on factual things we have seen in a fight. Such as 'Fighter A landed a really nice jab at 2:04 of round five'. That's how boring and unimaginative boxing fans would be.

So, I'll say it again; looking at the style of Joe C and the style of Toney, and knowing how Toney was in his SMW tenure....I'd say Calzaghe beats him.

I also say that the closeness of the Calzaghe-B-Hop fight shows how closely gauged they are....and B-Hop's safety first style was due to that being his plan, not because he was past it. Which shows how tricky Calzaghe is to fight.

Which must make him above a B-Level, European fighter, surely?

Of course, this will go on and on, but I like debating these things.

  9. Try telling that to most ameri....I mean Hopkins fans! One minute they say his 160 reign was his peak, then the tarver win, then he became old after losing to Joe only to then he suddenly get good again after trounching Pavlik! :huh

I should add that I said "probably". You never know with great fighters like Hopkins and Toney, for all we know they could've done it v Calzaghe on those nights. They are more skilled fighters than Kessler, and Jones was far more skilled than Calzaghe, so although I would take Calzaghe to edge wins in both these fights, I wouldn't be very certain of it.
