In no way is this meant to discredit or disparage Ward or his performance, but it is a fact that the version of Kessler that Joe beat put up a hell of a lot more fight. He was taken out of his comfort zone and had his boxing spoiled both nights, too - so none of this "he sucked because Ward made him suck". It was a combination of his performance being flat and Ward's being on the money. It's not an either/or situation. That Joe had to work harder than Andre belies the fact that Kessler of today would be KTFO by Kessler of a couple of years ago.

Ward looks like he'll eventually be up there with the best, but Calzaghe would absolutely annihilate him.

Ward has about zero power, but Calzaghe's isn't that great now either. Ward has no chin, Calzaghe is a rock. Based on those two things alone, you can rule out Ward stopping Calzaghe--just couldn't happen.

Calzaghe has never been tired in his life, and Ward has never fought at a Calzaghe-paced fight, so we can't be sure how he'd do.

People make a big deal about Ward's speed, but until I can see him and Calzaghe in the ring together, there's no way I'm giving him a speed advantage over Calzaghe. I've also heard a lot about Ward's footwork, but either it isn't as good as I've heard, or he just didn't need it against Kessler and Miranda. Calzaghe demonstrated brilliant footwork against Kessler and Lacy, for example, among many others.

Ward can obviously fight on the inside, but he looks sloppy on the way in, and I haven't seen him even try to fight on the outside. Calzaghe can do both (again, Lacy and Kessler as examples).

What it would really come down to is Calzaghe's superiority to Ward in almost every category. That, and the fact that Ward's game is to come forward and pressure, and so is Calzaghe's. I feel like Calzaghe's pressure would outdo Ward's wild bum-rushing, and once Calzaghe figured Ward out (say by round 3) we'd see Ward fighting off the back foot and Calzaghe teeing off on him on the ropes and roughing him up in the center of the ring.

Calzaghe UD 12, 117-111--Ward wins rounds 1 and 2, and one of the later rounds. Ward possibly gets a point deduction for repeated headbutting, and Joe gets warned for low blows in retaliation. All in all, it would be a good fight to watch, but Calzaghe would be the better fighter. Ward would show that he's on his way up and is possibly a future great.

It's the same EXACT thing and it's the same EXACT reactions and "you don't know anything about boxing" comments and name calling as just a few months ago when the Ward-Kessler topic was a hot one. I remember it well.

Ward has made a fan out of me, but I feel he would just be too inexperienced to get a win against Calzaghe at this stage. Though he put on a hell of a show, he had some mistakes he made that a veteran like Calzaghe would be able to capitalize on. The rushing in wildly, etc., gets caught by Calzaghe.
