My take on Floyds career. I have read alot of stories and comments about his career and wanted to tell it like it is... Floyd had a good career. He is a undefeated fighter and title holder across 5 weight divisons. Floyd will definitely be remembered and go down in history, but i honestly believe that he and some others honestly believe that he is the greatest fighter ever, but he can never even be considered in the Top 20 of the Best Pound for Pound fighters of all time...

    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstrong
    Joe Louis
    Muhammad Ali
    Willie Pep
    Roberto Duran
    Jack Dempsey
    Jack Johnson
    Sam Langford
    Sugar Ray Leonard

Thats just 10 boxers names i easily rattled off in my head who are above Floyd. I could easily think of another 10 or 20 more...

In my opinion Floyd didnt fight too many fighters to be considered among the best. Before i give you that list let me say, i didnt say Floyd ducked them, or they ducked him or whatever. Floyd lovers may argue that oh they wanted too much it wasnt his fault rah rah rah. Im not here to argue that. I could very well agree with some of that. The fact of the matter is at the end of the day the fights didnt come off. You cannot judge a fighters legacy on who he ducked or who ducked him... That can be discussed but the over-riding factor is the fights didnt happen. You can only jude a career on the fights that happended in that career

Here is 8 names, there could be more depending on how you look at it:

    Acelino Freitas
    Joel Casamayor
    Kostya Tszyu
    Shane Mosley
    Miguel Cotto
    Paul Williams
    Antonio Margarito
    Winky Wright

When a fighter had the chance to fight all of those names and didnt, it is going to hurt his legacy. Now before you start with the usual: Your a ****ing idiot he would have killed Freitas or Mosley or WHOEVER, all im saying is this. Im not saying he wouldnt have killed this person or that person, its not the fukcing point. He didnt fight them and he could have. Thats it... You can sit here and argue all day about what he would have/could have done to this person and that person, as i said the fights didnt happen.

The fighters i mentioned above in my P4P list (which by the way are not in any order i just rattled names off) ALWAYS took on the best fighters. The one thing you will find in common with the best fighters ever is this: they fought the best. They fought EVERYBODY. No excuse or this and that. They were fighters who fought fights...

Im not trying to take away anything or bag Floyd. I dont hate him at all and have nothing against him. Floyd had a good career and did alot. He will be remebered in boxing history for participating in two of the biggest fights in the sports history, among other things... By at the end of the day in no way shape or form in Floyd Mayweather Jr the best fighter ever, or as i said, among the top 20 best fighters ever.

Comments/criticism is welcomed (Please no NUTHUGGERS or HATERS)

I applaud your level approach and requests to remain calm during the discussion and your considered post.

However, particulalry on this board - I am suffering Mayweather thread fatigue.

This part is off-base. I's pretty much impossible to fight everyone, there's usually gonna be someone you miss out on.

Among the guys you list, Jack Dempsey can easily be criticized for his opposition level as a champ. Some of the others missed out on some top guys too.

But I agree with the main point...I don't have Mayweather in the top 20 either.

Finally a sensible enough PBF thread...I will comment now.

I agree with much of what was said to start the thread.

PBF is a great fighter...however he didn't have the greatest fights.

Those in love with Mayweather, are unable to comprehend a middle of the road perspective of Lil' Floyd though. Good luck with not getting completely flamed now...

If you really reach, you could come up with a solid list of top guys who they never fought (regardless of who's at fault).

It's just easier nowadays because it's fresh in our minds, with all the technology of the trash talk in the media and whatnot.

It's not that hard to look at a fighter, especially one who's fought in numerous divisions, and look for quality fighters that they never fought. You just have to look harder and reach more.

There's very few fighters you can't nitpick and criticize.

Very good point mate one that i agree with... Floyd is just so often talked about by alot as i freakin king i felt like writing what i did. Its also about how much you can criticize... You can say something about almost everyone... But Floyd hasnt fought ALOT of people for somone who claims to be king

Mayweather gets a lot of ridiculous praise and a lot of ridiculous criticism. It's like that for the big-name fighters on message boards. Floyd's big mouth just makes it worse.

The majority of the people don't rank him in the top 20 all-time anyway.

Duran-Hagler-Hearns...Sugar Ray Leonard's legacy is based on these names.

Floyd never had any1 near these names to fight...However, it's a travesty that Floyd never fought Morales, Barrera, Hamed, Shane Mosley, or Pacman.

Those are the guys he should've fought (and still can/IMO will fight pac man)...but he is certianly not obligated to fight margo and shouldn't be looked down upon because of that (Margo doesn't even have that great of a resume)

With the exception of Mosley, all those guys were smaller. Bad timing, as Floyd was moving up the weights.

Wins over Tszyu, Cotto, or at least one of the top WWs after 2006) would've done more for Mayweather's standing than those guys. Those guys may have been bigger names, but I'm talking about the quality of the win (not the name recognition).

Thats a big thing i dont like in Floyd career... His early days were pretty good but the Welter days were shocking... So many names he could have fought... :-( Do you have him in your top 30? 40?

His career is a work in progress.

    Too early to pass judgement.

    Top 30? I don't know.

Like I said, I don't really blame him for a lot of those fights not materializing, but I'm not exactly gonna give him credit for it either.
