good article but i think you have sold Kessler short and completly focused on the negatives. This content is protected
I would not blame this on Joe Calzaghe.... he wanted the best for a long time....:yep He only got to fight what was served in front of him......they were never gonna roll the dice IMO...:scaredas:
Calzaghe was different, he got better with age. The lightly regarded WBO title at 168lbs has the best history of the lot, including Thomas Hearns, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Joe Calzaghe. Around that time the WBC title was held by some "paper" champions and the IBF and WBA were held by Ottke. Watch some of the Ottke fights, the ones he should have really lost, there are plenty of them. Calzaghe was the man. Ottke wouldn't have won outside of Germany and would have lost in Germany if the referees were unbiased against his defensive style.
This is close to the truth but alzaghe did prove his lack of greatness scraping through against Hopkins and failing to make any impression on Jones. His failiure to stop any fighter of notable form is also damning even Pernell Whitiker banged a couple of decent fighters out.
How many so called great fighters has Hopkins beaten that had to be scrapped off the canvas? He lost to Calzaghe, whilst beating the likes of Trinidad, De La Hoya, Pavlik and Tarver. I don't think anyone would beat Hopkins really convincingly.
Scored it 114-113 Hopkins, I believe. I don't have a problem with people scoring it one point either way though.
