The general consensus view is that Mayweather is the undisputed No.1 fighter in the world but is this a case of something being repeated often enough that it eventually becomes an accepted truth?

Taking a closer look at what has got Floyd to this spot shows this may be the case.

Robert Guerroro - Solid opponent and about as good a fight as could have been made at 147 at the time but he is not a guy that's going to be remembered for having done anything at 147.

Miguel Cotto - Another good win but Trout beat Cotto by a wider margin just six months later. Is Trout on anyone's P4P list?

Victor Ortiz - Is Lopez or Maidana on anyone's P4P list?

Shane Mosley - P4P #3 at the time but gained that ranking by beating Margarito who climbed to #4 by beating Cotto(don't think I need to tell backstory to that one). Mosley has gone 1-2-1 since losing to Floyd.

JMM - Good win but its four years ago.

    Thoughts?

There is no case to be made whatsoever. Anyone trying to make the case is a pathetic hater or has no clue about the sport.

The general concencus that floyd is number 1 is because he beats good opponents who give other elite fighters of their division hell

Floyd takes em and makes them look like amateurs. Lets also remember he is past prime fighting in a division he clearly is not right for (his next opponent will most likely outweigh him by 20+lbs) so credit can be given for that

I think the frequency of his fights is what let him down but as we now see he is fixing that to.

At this point floyd has to lose to be knocked off

That's not really the case though is it. As I have pointed out other fighters have beaten the same opponents Floyd has faced in recent years and in most cases have beaten them more decisively and no one is putting them near any P4P list.

P4P is judged by 3 criteria:
1 overall record 44-0 with I think 19 straight title fights
    2 who you beat
    3 HOW YOU BEAT THEM
The manner in which Floyd wins is a major reason for his Rank at #1
Trout only beat Cotto, it is cumulative wins over top level opponents. Just because someone else beats the same guy floyd does, dosen't mean anything. The only person currently fighting who has beating the same or better level opposition is Manny, but his recent loses have knocked him back.

Ward is the only person that has a case to be #1 but he hasn't been active lately

P4P is not based on overall record it is based on who are the top fighters in the world at the moment. If P4P is based on overall record I want Roy Jones and Holyfield back on the list neither are retired yet and both of there records **** on everyone else on the P4P list not named Mayweather or Pacquiao.

As for your second and third points see my last post.

You're not much of a thinker if JMM is your #1 fighter.
