At least the Evertonians watching on tele missed the goal as it happened. What a **** up by ITV. Just read Gerrard could be out for the Real Madrid game.
No, it shows Alex Ferguson has ITV in his pocket (A reason he does not talk to the BBC). A live match with one goal no one watching on TV, See's..... Who is to say this was not a big set-up to try and ruin Liverpool?
Calzaghe would have been a stellar 15 round fighter, and I think more of his fights, title fights, that is would have ended in stoppages, though more than likely tko's.
How hard would it be to put on a 15 round fight? Say Calzaghe didn't retire and wanted to defend his Ring 175 belt against, oh, Hopkins over 15 rounds. With no alphabet belt on the line, there's no organization to step in and stop it. Would the state or European commissions allow it? Seems like an enterprising promoter (Golden Boy?) could put on such a bout and sell tons more tickets & PPVs by billing it as something like "Settling it old school over 15 rounds!" Or would the fighters & their trainers and managers not go for it, citing the fact that the public is used to 12-round fights so why put themselves in extra danger? Any thoughts?
Alrite Al, long time no speak, i haven't been on too much lately, not as much as what most used to see me anyway, loads of studyin taking up my time. Anyway, i know this isnt really answering the question of the thread, but in sort of the same direction- On the subject of the difference between 12 and 15 round fights, i always remember Holmes-Spinks first fight. When i first watched it i thought Spinks was winning, then i think after the half-way point, Holmes hits Spinks hard a good few times to the mid-section, really hard, like haymakers from a man who had size on his side, it just looks like it takes it out of the smaller man. And even though i knew the outcome i was thinking 'how's he gunna make it to the end of round 15?, that drained him', but Spinks dug deep and found some more energy from who knows where. You don't get that feeling in my opinion quite to that extent with 12 round fights. By the way guys, im a red, as Al knows, a real red, through and through
I grew up watching 15 round fights and its just not the same, 12 rounds. They were the "championship rounds" for a reason.
