Are we currently being sold short as boxing fans by missing out on rounds 13-15 in a big championship fights?

As an example I personally feel Haye v Wlad have worked out differently had it gone beyond the 12th round. Theres no way Haye could have let off the gas for another 3 rounds and gotten away with it, although who's to say Wlad wouldnt have gassed and Haye sensed an opportunity to strike late on?

Back in the day these rounds were the makers of men, they set the elite apart... there was no room to hide here, you had to be conditioned, disciplined and ready to go all the way... glass hearts would certainly not make it

Will we ever see a return to 15 rounds?

I hope so 15 round fights would be good for boxing there are so many fights that would have been different if fighters were allowed to compete over this distance. Why can’t you just let fighters negotiate the number of rounds they want to fight in the contract like the used to in the bareknuckle days those guys would fight 30 to 40 rounds for me that’s a bit excessive but anything up to 15 would be fine and add no greater health risk to the fighters. I would also like to see the weight of the gloves dropped as there like pillows now and let guys get away with incorrect punching.

I disagree. Even today these guys get brutally knocked out and take tons of punishment. Let it be.

I'm all for fifteen rounds of boxing and referees allowing fights to go to their natural conclusions but "boxing fans" have suffered from the pussification of boxing for so long that they'd be more apt to choose less rounds and more early stoppages than what I'd like.

Perhaps a round shouldn't end until one guy hits the deck, like 'the good old days'...

I think 12 round bouts are sufficient for a title fight and lets keep the gloves how they are shall we?

It's tough to decipher exactly when the fatal damage was done. Say a fighter gets killed after a brutal beating that lasted 12 rounds.....was the damage already done after 9 or 10 and would've eventually caught up to him? Or would he have survived if the fight was stopped after the 9th?

Sometimes the damage takes a little while to really show. I remember Jim Lampley saying in the 2 ring deaths he witnessed, that the fighters walked back to their dressing room and seemed fine at the time.

No, rounds 13-15 are just going to shorten lives. 12 is fine.

Do some research and find out why fights are no longer 15 rounds. 12 rounds are sufficient. You want severe punishment and beat-downs, watch pride fighting.

The rules were probably changed because boxing was big on network TV in the states in the early 80s and 12 rounds + intros + post fight interviews is easier to fit in an hour than 15 rounds. So they used fighter safety as a smokescreen.

Much like how the money lost on the cancellation of Spinks-Muhammad 2 was probably a bigger reason they changed the weigh-in procedures than for fighter safety.

The WBC was the first to go 12 rounds. They care about $$, not protecting the sport or its fighters. Jose Suliaman is absolute scum.
