What was the biggest contributer to the change or perceived change in Khan's ability to take a heavy punch?

his chin wasnt bad to begin with.

he took some crazy bombs from Maidana and managed to stay up.

His chin was considered to be very questionable even before the Prescott loss. It was probably the match against Limond that started the 'glass jaw' criticism, but he was also floored by a cuffing shot from Gomez.

To be honest, I'm still surprised that he made it out of that tenth round against Maidana. He was hit again and again by arguably one of the hardest hitting guys in his weight class, and still didn't go down. He's always shown heart, so that part didn't surprise me, but this time he seemed to have the weight and conditioning to back that up and keep him on his feet. I don't think someone with a glass jaw would have made it out of that tenth round. I think his chin, defence and knowledge of what to do when hurt have all improved, but he still seems vulnerable. (Mainly because his defence still has serious holes, and while his ability to take punishment seems to have improved, it's still a questionable area.)

Credit to Khan for that performance, he showed great heart, but I think 8 times out of 10 that fight would have been stopped and awarded to Maidana.

That's not a slight on Khan, just saying what a funny game boxing can be.

Had the ref stopped it, Khan's chin more than probably would have still been as much in question as it ever was, which would be ridiculous based on a ref decision.

They did the obvious thing, and took the weight off of Khans arms and sholders, and put it on to his legs, I'd argue that Khan's upper body looked alot bigger when he was at lightweight than it does now he's a weightclass higher. Obviously lessening the weight on his sholders and arms has made him even quicker.

I'd assume, like any decent boxing camp they also do plenty of excercises to build up Amir's neck.

moving up in weight added muscle to the surrounding areas of the shoulders, neck, jaw, clavicle etc
