fond memories. i'll be telling my grandchildren of this moment. have you noticed how choi still isn't ranked by the wbo, yet derry matthews is number 7 atsch
Choi came in as a replacement for this fight. Now I heard a rumour, cant substantiate it at all as I wont reveal where it came from - so take it or dismiss it as you will, that Derry was trying to get out of his contract with his promoter prior to the original fight. When he opponent pulled out and they tried to get a replacement they drafted in Choi. Some people seem to think Derry was stitched up as they knew he'd get beat by a seasoned Choi and claimed that his promotional team were thinking along the lines of 'well if he wont fight for us he's not gonna get anyone else'. As I say, cant claim this to be fact, just someone else's opinion which I thought would make a good point of debate.
I agree. Didnt rate him as anything more than a good domestic boxer anyway. But still an interesting slant on the politics of it all
I was a little shocked how such a slow slugger easily landed his hooks though on Derry. Derry didn't have an answer for them even though he seemed capable of and was outboxing Choi on the jab.
i cannot believe that mathews team took him on such short notice I cleaned up that night on him though. he was nearly 4/1 with the bookies.
Derry was a bag of hype and he got exposed big time, every one can now talk **** and make excuses but Choi would have destroyed him regardless.
bump Matthews had a fight last night and theres still no news of who Choi is going to fight next? Hes 36, he needs to be getting some fights while hes ahead. Anyone know who the WBU #1 contender is?
i agree strongly. styles make fights and derry doesn't have style to hold offf a peak a boo type slugger like choi its still suspicious though the way his management allowed him to take a fight at such short notice
i dont think the WBU have mandatory challengers tbh ...there is nothing on Bxorec forwho he is fighting next ...he shoyld be capatilising on this
