Nigel Benn got me into boxing, his rivalry with Eubank was epic and his wins over DeWitt, Barkley, Sims, Malinga (first time round), Galvano x2, McClellan and Nardiello propelled him to greatness for me. How this man is not yet in the hall of fame is beyond me. Call me a nuthugger I dont give a damn. He didnt duck nobody and anybody spouting that **** here will get the treatment they deserve, Dark Destroyer style.

The fact we have no Nigel Benn appreciation thread is ridiculous, we all worship the great man so come forth my brothers and bow down to a legend.:hail

Any Nigel Benn related stories and anecdotes are welcome. Or just bask in his glory.

As a kid i didn't respect how good he really was till the last couple years watching back fights. McClellan fight was something of sheer bravery and i cannot appreciate enough how much inner pride and metal he had to pull out to win that fight.

My Sister was driving through Streatham about 8 years or so back they bumped cars and she got out of car and went to go ape**** and the guy and who gets out....a one Nigel Benn...she clocks it's him and keeps her cool and he is all respectful and admits the accident was his fault and apologizes and they end up sitting there for a hour just talking about boxing and life in general. She didn't have a bad word to say about him and her motor was fine

Wow! I would love to have a chat with Nige about boxing. He was a bit of a wild boy back in the day and I could imagine him being a bit rude back then but hes proper calmed down over the years and seems a top bloke and a gentleman these days. Besides when your fighting I think it helps when you have that inner fire and a bit of hate, similar to Duran.

He was a great character & a fine champion, & I loved his book.

    HOWEVER

Its such a shame he never fought the true greats of his era.

I will always admire the guy, but Im no convert to the church of Nigel Benn cos he didnt fight the best of his era.

& remember folks, I was a young impressionable man buying boxing magazines back in those days before the internet, & I really thought that both Benn & Eubank would 'get it on' with the prime Jones jnr & Toneys of the world.

    Never happened though.

    Blasphemy! :fire

No I can understand that, just as long as you dont blame Benn for the fights not coming off. Its a shame because there were so many great fights to be made at that time which werent.

The gospel according to Nigel? Count me in.

A friend of mine was staying in a hotel in Liverpool having come up for the weekend. He went out for dinner and came back for a night cap at the hotel bar, sat down next to some guy who turned out to be Nigel Benn. My mate's not really a boxing fan but he said he was a cracking bloke that took time out for pretty much everyone around to get a picture with him and sign autographs. In between all this (of which my mate said there were countless) he'd sit back down and chat to my mate about the day they had both had. I'd love to meet Benn.

Favourite fighter ever. You'll struggle to find a fighter so universally loved.

The Benn/Eubank era got me into boxing as a kid, and obviously Benn was my favourite (I was a kid, Eubank was the pantomine villian etc). As I got older and more into boxing and watching Benn's fights again I have another level of appreciation for him, legend in my eyes.

I'm on board brother! Shout it out load!

Talking of Churches, hasn't Benn found religion himself now (a mainstream one, not on in which he is the deity!)? I read somewhere that he wants to put his boxing career behind him and he auctioned his old belts saying they brought him and his family so much heartache?
