It was already reported that this did take place and GGG did get the better of him.Thing is, everyone agrees that Kovalev was very green, far from the skills he posses now, so there isn't really much to take from it. I think Kovalev, at this point, would be too much.

GG didn't boss Kov around and that's not even close to what happened. If we were to judge fighters over sparring by blowing up something that did or didn't happen...Greg Page would've been the king of the world lol...

Reminds me of a story I read about Jack Dempsey. He routinely "boxed" with actors and writers just for fun. But he would not fight Ernest Hemingway, who was a bully and really thought he box on Dempsey's level. Dempsey felt that he would have to hurt Hemingway, really box him, to stop him from throwing punches.

Same with GGG-Kovalev. I'm sure GGG would come in with bad intentions, and the only thing K could do is to hurt him to keep him away. These are prize fighters...no money, no need to hurt people and themselves.

This makes sense , to keep GGG off him he would have to throw bombs , and when those bombs land it wouldn't be pretty.

I think Kovalev would stop Golovkin in a real fight but I've heard too many reports from numerous different sources saying Golovkin, at the very least, dropped him with a body shot during sparring. Doug Fischer was one of those sources and the fact that Kovalev is also one of them kind of lends credence to that. I can't find the quote right now but Sergey said he wasn't in fighting shape at the time because he had just returned from being on holiday a few weeks earlier. However, he did indeed confirm that he was dropped by a body shot.

Want Cotto to come up for GGG? How about GGG go up for Kovalev. See how scary he is with Krusher !! #boxing

    Douglass Fischer @dougiefischer
@AusWomby @jrosales13 I've seen video of what GGG did with Krusher up in Big Bear a few years ago. It was indeed scary.

James Kirkland bashed up Yunieski Gonzalez in sparring but I don't for one second think he'd last very long with him in a real fight. lol at the size of that ring. I feel sorry for Gonzalez there. I'd like to see those sessions from the start because Gonzalez looks pretty gassed to me.

Wasn't this 7 years ago? Meaningless, both guys are different boxers now, more so for Kovalev.
