    Hello.

As per the discussion this week on the forum i'm organising a hall of fame voted for by the forum continuing, here, with the Lightweights. If you have any general points to make about the process or think changes are needed, please don't post them in this thread, but rather the one linked below.

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/the-classic-bn24-hall-of-fame-a-chat.692777/

This is for any and all discussion surrounding technical issues relating to the process. In this thread, discussion is encouraged but should surround only the seven fighters to be inducted into the inaugural Classic Hall of Fame

Please read the rules before posting.

1 - You will nominate 7 Lightweights from the provided list that you believe should be in the inaugural HoF.
2 - The seven Lightweights most often named will be inducted.
3 - In the case of a tie, I'll call upon you all to vote again to settle the issue.
4 - You are voting on the ENTIRE career of the fighters to hand. You are NOT just inducting them as Lightweights - consider their whole career when voting.
5 - Fighters must be retired on or before December 31st 1999 to be considered for the HoF.
6 - You can alter your list right up until the closing date by editing the post with your list in it.

Thank you for participating. It is your Hall of Fame so please do consider your votes carefully and take your time. The thread will be closed to new votes on October 8.

So Tony Canzoneri isn’t in because he was in Featherweight? And the same with Henry Armstrong? Might have to revisit my Featherweight list now.

And some guy called Duran…? Oh, and Pernell Whitaker. Have I missed the point?

EDIT: Yes, I have - these two at least were not retired in time. Damn. Of course. Just so weird to see a list without their names, I temporarily forgot the rules.

    Benny Leonard
    Carlos Ortiz
    Ike Williams
    Packey McFarland
    Freddie Welsh
    Barney Ross

I voted for Lou Ambers and then realised Barney Ross had to be above him. So hard not to vote for guys who were great at the weight, even when that’s not the complete criteria - just feels counter-intuitive. Ho hum.

Top 6 picked themselves. May as well tossed a coin between Welsh and Ambers.

Well we'll see. If the forum really manages to fail to induct someone like Armstrong I'd probably have to find a way to let people fix that. The input needn't be so inflexible that it destroys the output. But voting for someone 3/8 weight classes because they had the better career overall and then my bumping them seems less satisfying than having 20 unique fighters per class to consider.

So again: my advice is, and has been since the start: vote for the seven fighters on that list most deserving of inclusion in the HoF. Keep it simple, it'll be simple.

 this process is giving you nightmares Jel. I appreciate that.

Yes, I found this one really easy too, bizarre after the featherweights but it's just as stacked.

Incredibly stacked when you consider, for the reasons given in your opening post, Duran and Whittaker arent included. Not to mention Armstrong and Canzeroni. On the whole, Lightweight is the most stacked division, imo

This one is really feeling like a unanimous decision…

…apart from the surprise inclusion of Jack McAuliffe by @TBooze.
