***The Close Fight or Robbery Thread***

We differed on round 3 and round 9, I think, giving me an 9-6 Ali victory. I agree it was close, but I do believe the bout was tactically controlled by Ali. He won the battle of minds, and in the end, was on his way to a knockout.

Let this thread be the vehicle that dispatches the myth that Zarate-Pintor was a terrible crime. It wasn't. Yes, I had Zarate winning, but only by a couple points. Many of these rounds were tight too, meaning depending on how you looked at it and your personal preferences in fighting style you could very well have had it a point or so either way.

Most here know the score, having seen the fight themselves, but in no way was that thing a robbery. I thought the wrong guy got it, but it was quite close.

I agree. I thought Morales won two out of 3 but all of their fights were close

 

Gonna score a few this weekend!

 

I had Morales-Barrera 2 a draw. It was a close fight that could have gone either way, as were the other 2 fights.

Also had Pintor-Zarate a draw.

 

Can't remember the roundage but Whitaker 10 rounds Chavez 2 rounds,

 

In the Barrera-Morales trilogy, my cards reflected the response of the media (for a change!),

Whitaker vs Ramirez 1 and Chavez were both robberies

Alexander vs Kotelnik was a robbery

Okay............as promised, I just watched Pintor-Zarate again and scored it. Here's what I had.........

Round 1...10-10
Round 2...Pintor, 10-9
Round 3...Zarate, 10-9
Round 4...Zarate, 10-8 (in the middle rounds, Zarate came up with an unusual and inventive combination of straight right lead followed with a hard jab....this is the combo that floored Pintor).
Round 5...Zarate, 10-9
Round 6...Pintor, 10-9
Round 7...Zarate, 10-9
Round 8...Pintor, 10-9
Round 9...Pintor, 10-9
Round 10...Pintor, 10-9
Round 11...Zarate, 10-9

Final score......Zarate 143, Pintor 142. Razor-thin decision. This fight was a treat to watch. Both these guys are thought of in a general sense as being aggressive, strong bangers with good power, but this fight was so rife with boxing skill and intelligence it was disgusting. Must watching for a boxing noob; THIS is how you do this stuff. Beautiful display by both men.

 

it was as bad of a fight as you'll see....but...

poor old evander holyfield....after all he did through his career, all those battles and titles won....they robbed him of another great achievement - the oldest heavyweight world champion...cement his place {even more} in boxing folklore it would have...
