What are peoples thoughts on it. I watched the fight again yesterday, and to me the HBO commentary is terrible. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVQD8VkGePU[/ame] Check out from 1:06, round 11. To me that was a punishing round from Chavez, and HBO barely acknowledge, they are either not saying anything, or they say how Chavez needs a miracle or how unlikely a knockout looks. Can they not see Taylors face and how many blows he's taking. HBO Commentary - Nothing changes!
Also the shot at 1:12:19, from Chavez not commented on even though it nearly takes taylors head off. They are still talking about taylors patter shot before hand.
I actually enjoyed that moment in the 12th when the crew stayed silent and you could hear nothing but the sound of the punches and the crowd. I'd love to have a "mute the commentators" option for every fight.
i agree i love silence when its in disbelief of what's happening or in awe of the fight. But this just came across as Silence as they weren't acknowledging any of chavvez work. They were quiet a few times in the last coupe of rounds while chavez was pounding away, then would talk againg when taylor landed a flurry.
It was bad, of course not in Pacquiao-Bradley category, but still bad. I gave Chavez three rounds leading to 12th. Meldrick was winning the fight, don't get me wrong, but Chavez was in the fight, especially after 8th.
Perhaps the worst part was in the 10th when Lampley said "Chavez on the verge of going down" He wasn't even hurt!
Obviously HBO were always pushing for the next marketable American star...they were thinking of the $$$$
I refuse to listen to HBO commentary any longer. As I'm usually supporting the fighter that HBO is shitting on, not all the time but usually that is the case.
To be fair at the end of the round Lampley does say 'Taylor was woozy and went to the wrong corner'...but yeh there is always bias on HBO. Funny when you can see a fight turning, but the commentators are so busy towing the line of promoting the marketable fighter they take a couple of rounds to catch up :bart
I know it's bad timing to talk about this now and I don't mean to disrespect Manny's memory but him and the rest of the HBO crew were particularly biased during the Linares/Demarco fight and were praising Linares as the next SRR while Demarco was cutting his face to shreds.
yes i agree. Sometimes commentators get carried away, The worst i've heard was Bob Sheridan on Mayweather vs Cotto. That was so Bad.
that was ****ing horrible! they dident even acknowledge some MAMMOTH shots from chavez and when he dropped taylor it went completely silent rofl! to be honest it sounded COMPLETELY AMAZING TO HEAR THE CROWD ROAR
The most annoying I can remember was Thunderbox. "What a knockout....only on Thunderbox!!" "Yes!!! Thunderbox!!"
Yes I agree they were favoring Taylor when Chavez was clearly creeping up on the kayo very quickly. One of the things I love about Roy Jones for all his flaws as a commentator is that he's pretty much unbiased, and more importantly he's great at picking up on the subtle shifts in momentum during fights. It always seems like it takes Lamps/Larry/Kellerman two or three rounds to catch up on a momentum shift, but Roy always knows what's going on.
