Let's try this for size. I tried one before with All Time Great middles and that died on its arse but, as a tribute to the late, great Bob Willis, I'm not going to back down, despite the odds against me.

Using the attributes of only fighters who just fall short of greatness, or, at least all-time greatness, let's make the (im)perfect middleweight. One attribute per fighter.

In establishing what I mean by 'Very Good', examples at other weights might include Ken Norton, John Conteh, Nigel Benn, Willie Pastrano, Tony DeMarco, Meldrick Taylor, Buddy McGirt, Howard Winstone. I hope you get my drift. Anyway, here goes. Bottoms Up, Bob.

Right hand: Can't see past Julian Jackson.
Left hand: Al Hostak (narrowly pipping Florentino Fernandez as Al was a) bigger and b) Croatian)
Jab: Actually. Give this to Al and let Fernandez have the left hook.
    Chin: Chris Eubank
    Stamina: Vito Antuofermo
    Footwork: Joey Giardello
    Aggression: Rubin Carter
    Ring IQ: Sumbu Kalambay
    Strength: Randy Turpin

Over to you all. Knock yourselves out.

Okay I'll take a stab. For openers there has to be little or no film on him, and his competition must be good!

You don't consider Fitz, Greb, Williams, LaMotta great?
Also you can only use each guy once.
    And GGG's chin > LaMotta's?

I only used each person once, and yes, I think there were great. I was being humorous with the opening line as there is no film on Williams or Greb and limited on Fitz

Yes I thin GGG has the best chin. He was ever floored as a pro or in his 200+ Amateur matches. I've never even seen him hurt.

Mine wasn't imperfect, I used who I thought was the best

    You used Fitz twice.
Then you've miss understood the thread, you're supposed to use fighters you don't think are great.

Mine wasn't imperfect, I used who I thought was the best at XYZ. Sorry. By mixing different attributes from near greats, you're going to get nearly unbeatable fighter. I went for the best every cross mix.

I find it hard to separate attributes from near greats vs greats as the near great guy might actually be better at a certain part of the game the great is known for.
