I've been thinking about this for a while. As someone who gets away with little training but remains trim, mostly through genetics and good diet I could become much more with disciplined exercise.

What does this have to do with fighters?

Well fighters (mostly) live a disciplined lifestyle, remain fit and healthy mostly year round excluding a few....FOR YEARS then when they retire many just slump into horrible shape many becoming obese, almost like their bodies after years of training can't handle the inactivity and increase in crappy foods. I find it inspiring to see ex-fighters who remained in shape and hold that discipline. Who are these fighters? Please add to the list.

    I'll start

    Zab Judah
    Lucas Matthysse
    Bernard Hopkins
    Andre Ward
    Floyd Mayweather

I must point that genetics does seem to play a role, some of these guys obvoisly exercise much less but still remain trim with simply a decent diet.

On the contrary it's easy to name boxers who became fat blobs which is kind of shocking to see given we saw them as prime fighting machines.

Eubank Sr and Benn still look in excellent shape, both always very disciplined. Froch is like some kind of robot obsessed with hitting fitness targets in his notebook. Lennox looks about ten years younger than his age, remarkable genetics. Leonard also has always been in incredible shape. I'd say Mayweather and Pacquiao but I don't think anybody ever expects them to retire from the sport so they're still part timers.

A few years ago, I saw a clip of Chavez.

He spoke of staying in shape at an advanced age.

He said that he ran for an hour on the treadmill each day.

    12k (7.5m)

    Very impressive.

At the time of the clip, he was literally in better shape than Jr.
