The Contender: Did anyone watch last night?

    I'm not sure where they got these fighters but they should have chosen a more novice group so that the terrible boxing won't be so visible when real boxing trained people and hardcore fans won't bash the fighters as hard.
    Last nights match was a bunch of flailing punches and swinging with your mouth open and eyes close and I'm exclusively talking about Lamar Russ. I have never felt like I could KO a fighter straight off the couch as much as I do Lamar Russ. How can you be in shape but winded in the first round?
    How can you be a professional fighter that can't remember your corners instructions?
    How can you be a professional fighter and not know ow to pace yourself and you get all hyped over the camera when you have fought in front of one before?

    That was an embarrassment of the American boxing gym right there and whoever told that bum he could box. Bro Nazzim was looking at this fool like he was a total fraud. Russ has been in the ring with bigger names and fought to the distance with Matthew Macklin in a competitive fight but went total "amateur" on The Contender. On top of that him and his opponent are on suspension by the CSA. Can any of those guys fight?

    The first two guys fought like complete amateurs. You want someone even less experienced and qualified?
    Yea, it was horrible.
    Nerves, poor coordination and punishment taken. Lamar was extremely nervous, he swung wild and got tagged big. It takes a tall on an average athlete.
    Knowing what to do and actually executing are way different. This is why guys always after fights start saying what they should have done and should not have
    This was a bit of a different environment. There was more on the line than ever before.
    Yea, it was bad. He should be experienced enough not to let such things get to him.

    They are both suspended because thats what commissions do. It's an automatic medical suspension if i am not mistaken. Everyone gets those. (dependent on the commission)

    Great production value, some interesting characters but what a horrible first fight.
    Still, it was worth the watch for me and i am somewhat looking forward to the next episode.

    I'm just ranting and a it jealous personally. This is suppose to be their chance to shine and display their skill to the casual public and they looked like they just laced up and went in there fresh off the streets.
    Where are the Joe Smith Jr's of this group coming out of the ashes with the will power to win. Dude quit after falling on his own arm because he was tired. It was all mental,more than physical.

    Yes, more novice. Guys who have not been at the level most of these guys have been. Those are the guys who need a shot. Shane Mosley Jr. has a famous name, he is already given credit for things his father has done on name alone. There are plenty of hungry gym rats that can destroy the top 10 of any division that need a TV spotlight chance to shine.

    Who has given Mosley Jr. any credit? He is laughed at by the more hardcore fans and in general, no one cares about him.
    He has had no spot light on him, no special treatment. (He might have gotten into the tournament because of his name tho)

    Who are the guys who deserve this shot? Name other 16 middleweights who are more deserving.
    These are the guys who are willing to fight and to prove that they belong among the top. They all deserve a shot.

    Should Mosley Jr. not test himself because of his fathers name?
    Should Khytrov drop out because he lost one fight?

    The Contender always has good production values but it honestly needs to be renamed "the gatekeepers"

    I remember the season they built around Jaidon Coddington who had already been embarrassingly ktfo by Allen Green

    The show would be AMAZING if it was actual good prospects on it.

    Troy Ross, Sakio Bika and Sergio Mora proved to be legit top 10 contenders. So the show did deliver.

    They're not French either, so L'Sheryl, LeBron, LeShawn, L'quille, La'Belle, LaVon, L'Erin etc. kinda make your argument invalid. Some people just like to come up with different names - and that's perfectly fine. Making fun of them is fine too.

    Sakio Bika was already a contender before he joined the show. He'd already fought for the WBC Super Middleweight title (against Beyer), the WBO Super Middleweight title (against Calzaghe), and fought Bute in an IBF Super Middleweight elimination bout.
